From the Gaza border:
There is more fallout from the attack on the Gaza border two nights ago.
Yesterday, soldiers from the Golani Brigade gave an interview on Army Radio in which they revealed that the terrorist who opened fire on their fellow Golanis was in Israel for 2 hours before the firefight occurred. What is worse is that the Golanis had him in their sights for an extended period of time before opening fire–because they were afraid they would be hauled before a court martial.
Instead they waited until the terrorist attacked them, a hesitation that cost us 3 wounded soldiers. There is still no word this morning on how the most seriously wounded of the soldiers is doing.

The Election Countdown Clock Is Ticking
The countdown clock as it was when this blog was written around 7:45 am this morning in Israel.
1 month, 15 days, 2 hours, 16 minutes, 20 seconds.
However, by the time you read this dear reader, the clock will undoubtedly have ticked down further.
The lists are now set; 32 political parties officially turned in their lists before the deadline last night:

Of course, out of these 32 parties only about 9 have a reasonable chance of passing the 3.25% threshhold and winning seats in the next Knesset; I have bolded these.
In the end, both the right and left failed to form unified blocks.
On the right, Otzma Yehudit (28) and Zehut (6) rejected the offer of United Right (31). Does this mean that Otzma Yehudit and Zehut will not garner enough votes independently to gain Knesset representation?
Probably, and unfortunately so.
On the left, Labor-Gesher (32) rejected the offer of the Democratic Camp (24). What this probably means is that both Labor-Gesher and the Democratic Camp will receive a diminished number of Knesset seats.
Two of the more interesting parties above–which almost certainly will not pass the threshhold–are Kama which is led by 4 wives of convicted polygamous cult leader Daniel Ambash, and Noam which is a conservative social party opposed to gay marriage.
In the end, unless some unforeseen event occurs between now and September 17, we will find ourselves back in the same situation we were in on April 9th: neither the left nor the right will win 61 seats, and Avigdor Lieberman of Yisrael Beytenu will hold the keys to power.
That is a depressing thought.
