Notice:
As you noticed, dear readers, there was no israelstreet blog yesterday. This was because your humble servant and his wife were touring eastern Jerusalem with one of our favorite organizations, Ateret Cohanim. Part 1 of that tour will be covered in tomorrow’s blog.
Excellent Video of the Day
Click here to watch the successful launch yesterday of the Israeli Amos 17 communications satellite. One of the most sophisticated communications satellites ever, the Amos 17 is expected to provide communications services across Africa and the Middle East. The launch took place at Cape Canaveral via SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launcher.
The News On The Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
On the Gaza border:
You will not read about it in the mainstream news, but not a day passes without explosive balloons being launched by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza toward southern Israel.
Here is a photo of a fire started yesterday at Moshav Sde David:
From Judea and Samaria:
*The major news of the day was that a Hamas terror attack on Jerusalem was thwarted by our security services.
Two Hamas terrorists in Hevron had already constructed three bombs packed with metal shards and nails for use in the attack:
Where did the terrorists in Hevron gain the expertise to make the bomb? From a third Hamas terrorist in Gaza, Ramzi Elauk—who was released in the infamous Gilad Shalit deal back in 2011. Elauk should have been in prison for the rest of his life after murdering Israelis.
Dozens of the Palestinian terrorists released in that deal have been re-arrested over the years as they quickly returned to terror.
*There were numerous “rock” and Molotov attacks yesterday carried out by Palestinian terrorists at such places as Neve Yair, Beit Horon, Tekoa, and Hawara.
Speaking of terrorists . . .
A rather amazing, but not really surprising story was detailed on Israel’s Channel 12 news last night.
In it, the reporter detailed the dozens of visits that Israeli lawmakers have made to Palestinian murderers incarcerated in Israeli prisons.
One of the segments of the story focused on the head of Israel’s Labor Party, Amir Peretz, who paid a number of visits to the infamous murderer Marwan Barghouti (currently serving 5 life sentences plus 40 years for 5 murders and other attempted murders).
When confronted with this information yesterday, the leftist Peretz said that he visited Barghouti on matters of “Israeli security.”
Can you believe this nonsense?
Of course you can. We hear nonsense like this from the “left” all the time.
Speaking of terrorists, again . . .
It turns out that the Hezbollah agent who was arrested in Uganda several weeks ago based on information provided by Mossad was not the only agent arrested.
The man’s brother was also taken into custody, and the two have already revealed that they were setting up a network across Africa to attack Israeli targets.
Palestinian terrorists fighting Palestinian terrorists . . .
You will recall that several days ago we reported how PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas had absurdly claimed that the PLO was severing all ties with Israel in Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria.
For the last two days, IDF solders–working in conjunction with PLO police–have been rounding up Hamas terrorists in Hevron.
Yesterday, Palestinians were out in the streets of the city throwing rocks and other projectiles at the PLO police as they carried out more than 30 arrests.
From the Central Bureau of Statistics . . .
. . . comes some fascinating figures in its annual “Foreign Workers Who Entered Abroad” report.
According to that report, 164,000 foreign workers legally came to Israel in 2018. However, about 7% of these workers overstayed their visas and were detained–or simply disappeared into Israeli society.
Also noted is the fact that 57,000 tourists who came to Israel in 2018 illegally remained in Israel to work. There was no discussion in the report about how this problem is being handled.
Excellent news on the medical front . . .

A beautiful new nature reserve . . .
The Nature and Parks Authority announced two days ago that a new nature reserve consisting of 250 acres of land around the Ein Reuven spring will soon be opened on the Golan.
This will happen when the IDF moves out of the area in which it is located near Katzrin.
TODAY’S BLOG:
A Happy Ending For A Palestinian Good Samaritan
We spend a lot of time here on israelstreet documenting Palestinian terrorism. But occasionally, very occasionally, we are able to report on a Palestinian who has acted nobly to save Israeli lives.
On July 1, 2016, Rabbi Michael “Miki” Mark of Otniel was driving near his home with his wife Chava and two of their ten children, 13-year-old daughter Tehila and 15-year-old son Pedayah.
Palestinian terrorists opened fire on the car. Rabbi Mark was instantly killed in a barrage of bullets and lost control of the car which overturned. Chava was knocked unconscious and critically wounded in the head.
The two children were trapped in the back seat.
A number of cars bearing Palestinian license plates passed the scene of carnage and did not stop.
But one did. A man jumped out of his car and rushed to the scene.
In his own words, as told to the Jerusalem Post, this is what happened:
“I tried to open the door, but the car was completely locked. I saw two children inside screaming and asking me to help them. I put out my hand and for two minutes, I tried to open the door to get to the children who were suffocating in the car. I think that if they stayed there a little while longer, those children would have suffocated in the car. Out of the shock she felt, the young daughter spontaneously grabbed me and jumped onto me. I immediately put my hand on her head and spoke to her in Hebrew, of course. I told her, ‘Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I will help you. Don’t worry.’ I did what I did out of humanity. These are children. There were children inside. There were people inside. I didn’t hesitate at all.”
The man’s wife, a medical doctor, also worked to stop the abdominal bleeding of the daughter until an ambulance arrived.
It should be noted that all the while they were doing this, other Palestinians in passing cars cursed them and threatened to kill them if they did not stop helping.
But they did not stop.
They saved the two children, and in the following weeks the man was lauded by the Israeli government for what he did.
But not by the Palestinians.
The PLO immediately fired him from his job as a civil servant, took away his home (after having it firebombed and shot at), and ostracized him from Palestinian society which branded him a collaborator for his helping the two children get out of the car.
Eventually, he escaped into Israel and was given permission to reside in Israel temporarily, but penniless without a work permit, he and his family (wife and baby) started camping out on Tel Aviv’s Manta Ray Beach until they were taken in by different Israeli families.
The family has been surviving by the money he makes from doing odd jobs.
Yesterday, this saga had a long overdue but happy ending. In a ceremony in the Minister of the Interior’s Office, the man and his family were made permanent residents of Israel, and he was given a work permit.
Kolakevod to this anonymous good Samaritan and his wife who bravely saved Israeli lives!
