The Amazingly Wonderful Photos Of the Day

Get out your magnifying glass. What's so amazing about 400+ people standing and sitting in front of the Kotel in Jerusalem?

Get out your magnifying glass. What’s so amazing about 400+ people standing and sitting in front of the Kotel in Jerusalem?

What is so amazingly wonderful is that all of the people in the photo are the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great great grandchildren of this lady:

Who is she?

Who is she?

She is 104-year-old Shoshana Obitz of Haifa.

Shoshana survived Auschwitz, immigrated to Israel, married a man whose wife and children were murdered in Nazi concentration camps, and raised a family.

Her only request for her 104th birthday was that all of her descendants gather at the Kotel. And so they did.

Absolutely Correct Quotation of the Day

“The IDF Chief of Staff’s job is to initiate, propose, and bring plans to the government and show how we can win. As Chief of Staff during the 2014 war, . . . the only alternatives Gantz brought before the cabinet were two: do nothing, or have the rivers run red with our soldiers’ blood . . . it’s clear what the Cabinet chose. . .

He had a budget of NIS 70 billion a year and almost endless powers . . . but in the end the IDF made all possible mistakes for 51 days, and Gantz came day after day to cry to the Cabinet.”

Yoav Gallant, former IDF Commander of the Southern Command and current government minister commenting on how Blue and White leader Benny Gantz now absurdly says he is the person to deal with with Hamas and the problems in Gaza.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In Judea and Samaria:

Palestinian terrorists brutally stabbed to death 19-year-old Dvir (Yehuda) Sorek, a yeshiva student from Ofra who was in training for the military near Migdal Oz in Gush Etzion. His body was found at 3:13 am this morning after a four hour search.

It is believed that the terrorists attempted to kidnap him, but killed him when he fought back.

At the moment, the area is under lockdown with the army conducting a wide-scale manhunt. The security assessment is that the terror cell that carried out the murder is planning another attack.

On the Gaza border:

More explosive balloons, more fires. Here is a photo of an explosive balloon floating over Netivot yesterday:
The best part is that it always succeeds in fighting and defeating the PDE5 enzyme that is found in erectile tissue, promoting the vascular and muscular changes that produce harder and more powerful hard-on supporting men to get back the particular sexual joy within their living.Penegra 100mg is often a type of generic india viagra exposed throughout help the folks experiencing erection issues. The particular balloon you see started a fire just outside of Netivot when it “landed” as did another in the Simhoni Forest near Nahal Oz.

Good news from the United States . . .

It has just been announced that the U.S. State Department has updated its definition of anti-Semitism. Now, when some person or entity compares Israeli policy to Nazi policy, that person or entity will be branded “anti-Semitic.”

TODAY’S BLOG:

Our Trip To Eastern Jerusalem and the Old City with Ateret Cohanim, Part 1

As regular readers of israelstreet know, your humble servant has always had a warm place in his heart for Ateret Cohanim. Whereas other organizations talk about the importance of Israeli sovereignty over all of Jerusalem, Ateret Cohanim is actively engaged in a house by house, block by block battle for the eastern part of the city.

On Tuesday morning, my wife and I made the always exhilarating trip from Ashdod up to Jerusalem by bus and met up with Daniel Luria at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Daniel is the amazing Ateret Cohanim man on the ground in the capital, and one of the more knowledgeable people about the history of Jerusalem. We were very fortunate to be joined on our “excursion”  by a lovely extended family from La Brea California-New York-Australia, and another wonderful person from Winnipeg, Canada whose son is a chayal boded (lone soldier) in the IDF.

Promptly at 11 am, we hopped onto our mini-van and off we went. On the way, Daniel talked about where we were going and discussed the focus of Ateret Cohahim. As he said, the organization passionately believes that Jews should have as much right to live in Arab neighborhoods as Arabs have to live in Jewish ones in the city. Part of Ateret Cohanim’s mission is to facilitate the purchase of Arab homes–especially Arab homes which were formerly Jewish until the Jews were thrown out in various pograms.

Daniel noted that there is no shortage of Arabs who want to sell properties; however, when they do they are arrested, tortured, and usually killed by the PLO (aka Palestinian Authority).

Our first stop was a home in the so-called “Arab section” of Abu Tor. Over the home was flying an Israeli flag, and a security station was just inside the iron gate to the yard. The security guard told me that I could not take any pictures, so I did not inside the house. But here are a few from the outside and on top:

Remember this home is in a densely populated "Arab" neighborhood.

Remember, this home is in a densely populated “Arab” neighborhood.

Note the opened iron gate with pointed spikes on top, the Israeli flag above the front door, and security cameras on the roof. Just imagine the courage it takes to live in a home like this– you always have to be on alert.

Here is a photo I took on the rooftop:

A grand view toward the southern wall of the Old City.

A grand view toward the southern wall of the Old City.

But what a view you have! And what comfort you must have knowing that you are redeeming Jewish Jerusalem.

But you are always surrounded (at least for now). Here is a photo of the house across the street which looks down on the rooftop of the house we were in:

That is where we will stop for today. Tomorrow we will journey with Ateret Cohanim over to the Mount of Olives. Throughout this series about our trip, I want you to remember that the bottom line is that the remarkable Ateret Cohanim needs your help. Visit its website and judge for yourself; for example, here is a link to the American Friends of Ateret Cohanim!
