The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
On the Gaza Border:
Palestinian terrorists fired a missile into southern Israel last night in the area around Be’eri. No Israelis were physically wounded, but who knows how many were traumatized by yet another attack? The IDF responded by firing two tank rounds, one at an empty building and the other at a sand dune.
In Judea and Samaria:
*Twelve wanted Palestinian terrorists were captured overnight by elements of the Israel Police, Border Police, and IDF.
*Palestinian terrorists threw 5 IEDs at Rachel’s Tomb (exactly where your humble servant was last week) hoping to kill or wound Jewish worshipers. None were killed or wounded and the terrorists escaped.
*Palestinian terrorists planted a bomb near the exit to Shechem. It was successfully defused by IDF sappers.
*Palestinian terrorists threw “rocks” and Molotovs at Israelis at Beit Anun, Adam Square, Kiryat Arba, Hizma, just outside of Hevron, Kochav Ya’akov, Ma’ale Amos, on Road 443, Al-Aruv (where we visited last week), Beit Sira, Beit Ummar, and the Beit Haggai Junction among other places.
The above “rock” and Molotov reports were sent in to Rescue Without Borders, Rescue 443, and hakolhayehudi.
Another IDF kangaroo court . . .
Try to wrap your mind around this.
Back on April 1, in the midst of yet another 10,000 Hamasniks attacking our soldiers at the border and doing everything within their power to kill them including throwing “rocks”, Molotovs, hand grenades, IEDs, and whatever else they use, one of our snipers spotted a group of terrorists trying to climb over the fence to attack an IDF position.
He instinctively fired his rifle in order to protect his comrades, and killed one of the terrorists.
For this, he was hauled in front of an IDF military court and had his punishment handed down two days ago.
Never mind that numerous IDF soldiers have been wounded and a few killed, the Court found the soldier guilty of “a breach of authority” and sentenced him to 30 days in prison.
What was his crime exactly? According to the Court, no sniper is now allowed to shoot unless specifically authorized to do so by a commanding officer.
Can you imagine this absurd situation? Even if you are in the midst of a heated battle, you cannot fire to protect yourself and your fellow soldiers unless you are authorized to do so.
The IDF has effectively neutered our soldiers and made them more vulnerable than ever.
17 days to go . . .
The clock continues ticking on Benny Gantz’s mandate to form a government, and it continues to look like the best he can do is try to form a minority one supported by the Joint Arab List.
As for Netanyahu’s Likud and Gantz’s Kahol Lavan and Lieberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu forming a “broad liberal government”, the conversation can easily be characterized as:
Likud: Kahol Lavan only wants government with the Joint Arab List.
Kahol Lavan: Likud only wants another election.
Lieberman: Likud should stop attacking me.
Kahol Lavan: We could have a government in 5 minutes if Likud would just throw the ultra-orthodox under the bus.
Lieberman: Why doesn’t Likud Just throw the ultra-orthodox under the bus?
Likud: Our block of 55 on the right remains solid.
And on and on and on . . .
17 days and counting.
The Jordanian citizen detained . . .
Hiba al-Labadi, the Jordanian citizen held since April at the Kishon detention center, is the latest cause celebre in Jordan which claims that Israel has no right to detain the Hezbollah recruiter.
The Jordanian demand to release her comes as the Island of Peace and surrounding farmland is turned over to Jordan tomorrow–following the abrogation of the lease extension agreement by King Abdullah last year.
All Jordan does is demand, demand, demand, and demand some more.
What does Jordan give? Nothing, nothing, nothing, and more of nothing.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Israel: The World’s Whipping Boy
Imagine for a moment that you are an Israeli.
Here’s what you have heard from all corners of the globe in the last 72 hours:
The Oslo City Council has condemned Israel and voted to support the BDS boycott.
The European Union has condemned Israel for destroying the homes of terrorists who murdered Israelis.
Democrat running for U.S. President Bernie Sanders has condemned Israel and suggested that money used for Israel’s defense be turned over to terrorists in Gaza.
Jordan has condemned Israel this morning for trying to “Judaeize the Temple Mount” following news that a record number of Jews (6000) ascended the Mount during Tishrei.
Lebanese leaders have condemned Israel for the economic problems in their country–as Lebanese demonstrators burned Israeli flags in the street.
J Street has condemned Israel for “occupation” and “settlement expansion” saying that Israel “tramples on Palestinians rights, imperils the prospects for Israeli-Palestinian peace and runs counter to American interests and democratic values.”
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, once again condemned Israel and once again questioned whether the Holocaust actually happened. And once again, Mohamad referred to Jews as “hook-nosed” people who “rule the world by proxy”, and further stated that he is “happy to be labeled an anti-Semite.”
And all of this is not even to mention the almost daily torrent of anti-Israel hatred spewing from the likes of the Labor Party in the U.K., university campuses in the United States, the United Nations, and Iran–the list is seemingly endless.
Not to mention the daily condemnations and criticism of Israel by LGBT groups, women’s groups, Reform Judaism groups, left wing Christian denominations, and, and, and.
So what are you to do if you are an Israeli who is just trying to survive in a sea of terrorism while still retaining your values of dignity and decency? Are you going to start feeling guilty and hang your head in shame? Or do you just thumb your nose at the world and tune it out?
Most Israelis have reached a point of completely tuning out the world except to note its sinister delight in trying to make our country into world’s whipping boy.
