The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
*A female terrorist pulled out a knife while walking down a sidewalk in Jerusalem, yelled Allahu Akbar, and began to stab a nearby pedestrian. The pedestrian was “moderately wounded”, and the terrorist was subdued by a pedestrian and a MADA volunteer:
*There was another “bulldozer” attack in Judea and Samaria where a terrorist tried to run over IDF soldiers. Fortunately, the soldiers were unscathed, and the terrorist was shot and wounded.
*An Israeli motorist was wounded during a “rock” and Molotov attack in the Jordan Valley. Other attacks occurred at such places as Al Fawwar, Ateret, Shukba, Hawara, Azzun, Abud, Shavei Shomron, Beit El, and Tekoa.
Naftali Bennett takes two important steps in Judea and Samaria . . .
Naftali Bennett is attempting to maximize what is sure to be his short stint as Israel’s Defense Minister. Short stint, because almost certainly, his term will come to an end after the coming election.
This morning has brought two new directives from Bennett:
1. Bennett has ordered a halt to all Palestinian construction in Area B on the basis that such construction poses a security threat to Jewish communities in Area C.
2. Bennett has approved the construction of more than 1,900 new housing units in Area C of Judea and Samaria. Specifically, the authorization is for 600 new homes in Ali, 534 new homes in Shvut Rachel, and 100 or more apartments in Nokdim, Alon Shvut, and Modi’in Gardens.
In taking these construction steps, Bennett said: “We are not waiting, we are working. We will not hand over an inch of Palestine land to the Arabs . . . Next week, I will approve many housing units in the communities, and we will continue to act later. . . We are no longer in the discourse of evacuation and freezing but in the process of expansion and construction of Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria.”
Bennett’s statement is wonderful; however, we all know that the Prime Minister has the final word and can freeze anything anytime he wants to.

If you missed yesterday’s blog about Har Homa, you can read it here. It provides context for today’s blog.
“Construction in Har Homa is contrary to international law. We are concerned about the Israeli government’s announcement of construction in occupied East Jerusalem. Construction will cut off East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank and subvert the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state.”
Statement from the German Foreign Ministry yesterday
Note the empty, fraudulent, cliches: “contrary to international law”, “occupied East Jerusalem”, “establishing a Palestinian state”. Once again, we wonder how the Europeans (in general) arrogantly presume that they have the right to dictate to Israel.
But talk about arrogant presumption . . . what about this quote from yesterday:
“We call for cancellation of the Har Homa decision in light of the outrage on Arab streets in Israel, in the territories, and in the Arab world. Israel should calm the tension in the Middle East by making concessions to the Palestinians in order to give them a chance for peace. The main concession should be freezing settlement construction.”
Emmanuel Macron, President of France
Can you even believe this?
Har Homa is Israeli land.
To think that a decision to build more apartments there should be nullified by Arab protests is incredible. But even more, that it is Israel’s responsibility to calm the Middle East is beyond unbelievable.
And on top of that, the notion that Israeli must make concessions to the Palestinians to give them a chance for peace when all Israel has done for decades is offer peace plan after peace plan that the Palestinians have rejected is just plain lunacy.
And more than this, the cherry on top of Macron’s cake that we should freeze settlement construction as a sop to the Palestinians is outright nauseating.
The sheer arrogance embodied by the Germans and French in attempting to dictate to Israel what our responsibilities are and what we can and cannot do is startling and demeaning in the extreme.
