It is now 3 days until the election on Monday, March 2.
The Utterly Incomprehensible Statement of the Day
“We are deeply saddened by the martyring of Turkish soldiers in Idlib.”
The Israel Foreign Ministry in a statement of condolence to the government of Turkey
This is so bizarre as to completely defy understanding. We have a situation in northern Syria in which the Turkish army has invaded the country for the express purpose getting rid of every Kurd it can find. At the same time, Turkey is attempting to extend its regional hegemony–just as it is doing by sending Turkish troops to Libya.
Insofar as Syria is concerned, the Syrian Army and Russia have combined to try to halt the Turkish advance and push the Turks back into Turkey. In this context, at least 29 Turkish soldiers were killed yesterday when they were attacked by the Syrian Air Force.
All of which begs the following questions:
Why in the world is Israel sympathizing with the Turks who are led by the ruthlessly anti-Semitic PM Taycip Erdogan?
Even more, it is egregiously sickening for our inept Foreign Ministry to say that the Turkish invaders were “martyred.” There are no martyrs among the Turks.

Benny Gantz In The Crosshairs: 3 Days Until The Election
The final polls are in, and they seem to show a situation in which PM Netanyahu’s Likud party has crept slightly ahead of Benny Gantz’s Kahol Lavan (Blue and White) Party. If we average all the polls together, it looks like Likud will take about 34 seats, and Kahol Lavan 33.
This surprising turn of events however does not change what is likely to be the overall result–that neither side will be able to form a coalition of 61 seats.

For such a coalition to be formed on the right, Likud would have to win 36 seats, Shas 9, United Torah Judaism 8, and Yamina 8. This seems unlikely.
For a coalition to be formed on the left, the world of Israeli politics would have to be turned upside down with Avigdor Lieberman and his Yisrael Beiteinu Party agreeing to support Gantz alongside the Joint Arab List. This seems highly unlikely.
Returning for a moment to why Likud has experienced a mini-surge in the polling, your humble servant thinks that it comes as a result of the Israeli media’s sudden willingness to target Benny Gantz.
This is not to suggest that the media does not continue trashing Netanyahu at every opportunity, it is merely to state that Gantz has now been hit with the following:
–the Fifth Dimension Affair which seems to show that Gantz’s company was illegally awarded a police contract back in 2016.
–the Harpaz Affair which seems to show that Gantz was in cahoots with Ashkenazi and Mandelblit in pushing a fake document that undermined Yoav Gallant’s chances of becoming IDF Chief of Staff.
–the Nava Jacobs Affair in which Ms. Jacob continues to claim that Gantz engaged in lewd sexual exploitation.
–the rental house affair in which Gantz rented out his house in central Israel when the IDF transferred him to the north–and then illegally had the IDF pay for his new home.
Moreover, in the last 48 hours two more anti-Gantz explosions have taken place.
In the first, Gantz senior adviser Yisrael Bachar was recorded saying that Gantz would be a disaster for Israel because he “lacks the courage” to deal with problems such as Iran. Bachar was fired by Gantz this afternoon.
In the second, a member of Gantz’s own party, MK Omer Yankelevitch said that “Gantz is stupid and completely incompetent.”
As regular readers of OneIsrael know, your humble servant completely agrees with both assessments. Gantz was a disaster as head of the IDF and would be disaster as prime minister.
Let’s hope that this fact continues to sink in to the Israel voting public in the next 48 hours.
