The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona update . . .
There are now 97 confirmed cases in Israel. One patient is in critical condition.
5230 Israeli kindergartners, teachers, and staff are now in self-isolation.
The government has now restricted events to no more than 100 people.
More than 100 hotels have been ordered closed.
The daily terror update . . .
In Judea and Samaria:
The usual number of “rock” and Molotov attacks occurred throughout the area with the most egregious being at Hawara where a 14 year old boy was critically wounded in the head by a “rock”.
Suffering from a skull fracture and internal bleeding, the boy is currently anesthetized and awaiting surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain.
In Gaza:
Well, not exactly in Gaza. 68 Hamas activists in Saudi Arabia were put on trial yesterday accused of terrorism. These 68 have been held since last April during which time they claim they have been tortured.
Hamas spokesman Hazam Qasam had this to say: “It is inconceivable to prosecute Palestinian leadership in an Arab state on charges relating to the Palestinian problem and in support of the legitimate struggle. The national and Arab obligation requires support for Palestinian resistance and reinforcement against the ‘century deal’ aimed at eliminating the Palestinian problem.”

Indeed, the Saudi action is remarkable, and perhaps marks a turning point at which parts of the Arab world no longer view Palestinian terrorists as “freedom fighters” but as the ordinary garden-variety terrorists that they are.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Israeli Politics Has Turned Dirtier Than Ever
The final vote count is in, and the voter fatigue that we predicted did not take place. In fact, the final turnout exceeded the voter turnout in last September’s election (71.46% this time compared to 69.8% before). Of 6,453,255 citizens who were eligible to vote, 4,612,007 cast a ballot.
Because of this heavier turnout, the 3.25% threshold necessary to get 4 seats in the Knesset was 149,004 votes. After that, each seat equaled 37,897 votes. Because of this heavier than expected turnout, there were not enough surplus votes to give any Party another seat.
President Rivlin will decide on Sunday who to first pass the “government formation baton” to.
Five members of the Joint Arab List declared this afternoon that they would not recommend Benny Gantz be prime minister nor would they join a Coalition Government headed by him. Those five alone mean that the most Knesset members that Gantz could possibly cobble together would be 57.
Meanwhile, Gantz continues what appears to be an uphill battle to form an anti-Bibi group to take over the Knesset. Heavy pressure (even to the point of death threats) is now being exerted on Orly Levy as well as the three members of Blue and White who have announced that they will not go along with the ploy.
Israeli politics has turned dirtier than ever with the Blue and White leadership not only breaking every promise they made not to align with the Joint Arab List, but also with Blue and White supporters resorting to life-threatening intimidation.
It is an extremely sorry scene.
