The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona update . . .
*As you can see from the breaking news ticker above, there are now 2363 confirmed cases of Corona virus in Israel. 5 people have died, and 39 are in serious to critical condition.
*All day long Israeli television has been showing video from some of the ultra-orthodox sections of the country in which few people seem to be following any rules laid down by the government concerning social distancing, masks, gloves, or anything else. PM Netanyahu’s update tonight emphasized that stricter guidelines will be put in place unless people start following the rules.
*Presumably because of the low mortality rate in Israel, government ministries have been bombarded in recent days by applications for citizenship from Israelis who had renounced their citizenship. Remarkably, they now want government help to return to the country.
*Most public transportation is scheduled to shut down in the coming days.
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
In honor of Arab Mothers’ Day, Balad Knesset member Sami Abu Shehadeh just sent a message to all Palestinian mothers of terrorists who have been killed carrying out terror attacks against Israel or who are mothers of terrorists in Israeli prisons.
That message praised them for their “heroic sacrifice” and that of their sons and daughters.
And this is whom Benny Gantz has aligned with in the Knesset.
Unbelievable.
Speaking of unbelievable, tomorrow is the 19th tragic anniversary of the murder of infant Shalhevet Pas who was killed by a Palestinian sniper in Hevron in 2002. Since the terrorist murderer was arrested, he has been paid 754,800 shekels ($210,000) by the PLO.

By the way, the Arab Joint List has announced that it is working for the terrorist’s release.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Israeli Government In Total Disarray
So, in case you missed it, here is the current situation:
*There is no coalition government. Benny Gantz has two more weeks to form one. Apparently his attempt to form a minority government is going nowhere. The absurdity is that Gantz and cronies have been able to take over the Knesset but cannot form a coalition government.
*While he makes the attempt, Gantz and PM Netanyahu continue discussions on forming a national emergency government; however, major sticking points remain. There is a five week window for this to take place (2 weeks of Gantz mandate, and 3 weeks of a Netanyahu mandate if Gantz fails).
*The speaker of the Knesset, Yuli Edelstein, resigned today to avoid carrying out an order from the Israel Supreme Court that he call for an election for a new Knesset speaker today. In doing so, he blasted the Court for its interference in Knesset affairs. His resignation really doesn’t take effect for 48 hours at which time Edelstein informed Labor Party leader Amir Peretz that he would become temporary speaker. In sum, the 61 seat anti-Bibi coalition consisting of leftists and terrorists (Balad), will soon have complete control of the Knesset barring some miracle.
*After Edelstein’s dramatic announcement, he was lambasted by everyone on the Israeli “left” from Attorney General Mandelblit to 100 retired justices to the Supreme Court itself. Mandelblit has spent the last few hours attempting to force Edelstein to carry out the Supreme Court order even though his letter of resignation has been submitted.
*In the midst of all of the above, PM Netanyahu remains prime minister by virtue of having formed the last coalition government–after the March election in 2015. As you know, since the Knesset dissolved in January 2019, there have been three elections with no person being able to form a coalition. Hence Netanyahu has remained prime minister through a series of transitional governments after the April 9 and September 17, 2019 elections, and still until today.
In sum, what we have is an anti-Bibi group in the Knesset along with their cohorts on the Supreme Court doing everything they can to kick Netanyahu out of office while Netanyahu himself clings to the vestiges of power.
The government in Israel is in total disarray.
