The daily Corona update . . .
As of 5 pm Thursday, 9755 Israelis are confirmed as having the Corona virus; 119 are in critical condition; 79 have died.
Most of the 119 who are in critical condition have been anesthetized and are being kept alive on ventilators. The prospects for their survival is not good.
As we have previously reported, one particularly bad eruption of Corona has taken place at the Mishan Nursing Home in Beersheva. Thus far, 10 residents of that home have died. The last two to have died are Avraham Hertzberg (96) and Shimon Reimilver (97); both of these men were Holocaust survivors–as have been many other Israelis who have died.
Can you imagine surviving the horrors of the Holocaust only to die at the hands of the Corona virus?

If there was any good news yesterday, it was Bernie Sanders’ announcement that he is suspending his campaign for the Democrat Party nomination for U.S. president.

Has The Formation of A Government Taken A Turn?
Given the events of the last few days, one might reasonably ask what is going on in Israeli politics? Are we on the verge of a unity government or not? And who would form that government: Gantz, Netanyahu, or both?
As you know, Gantz has until midnight on the 13th to form a government. Failing to do so, he could ask for a two week extension which might or might not be granted by President Rivlin.
If it were not granted (and there is no reason to think that Rivlin would not give it), the mandate to form a government would fall to Netanyahu.
Which seemed to be what Netanyahu suggested yesterday as he said: “I am determined to form a unity government; I will stand on the issue of sovereignty.”
“I am determined.”
Is this the game that Netanyahu has been playing over the last few weeks as he first seems to be signing an agreement with Gantz, only to backpedal at the last minute?
Ostensibly, the two hangups to a national emergency unity government remain sovereignty over Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley–and the control of the Justice Ministry and judiciary selection committee. But the real truth may be that Netanyahu is merely using these two issues as a delaying tactic to thwart Gantz.
