The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona update . . .

The newest details as of 8 pm Friday: there are 16,436 confirmed cases of Corona; 63 Israelis are on ventilators; 245 Israelis have died; 11,229 Israelis have recovered.

The sad fact is that as anesthetized patients are taken off ventilators, they often die.

For better or worse, Israel is beginning to open up. It was announced this morning that Israel’s premier basketball league will resume play on May 30, and the national league two days later on June 1. Players will not be able to play unless they self-quarantine beginning this Sunday and only have contact with immediate family members.

In a personal anecdote, your humble servant’s son and daughter-in-law took their three children (our grandchildren!) to the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem yesterday. Entrance was only available via an appointment, and masks had to be worn and social distancing had to be observed–but the zoo was open “for business” and families were in attendance.

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Palestinian terrorists using “rocks” and Molotovs attacked Israeli men, women, and children between the Gilead Junction and the Yitzhar Junction, at Abud, at Al-Fawwar southwest of Hevron, on Road 458 near Al-Muayyir, and on the Gush Etzion-Hevron Road among other places.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Plague of “Unnamed Israeli Senior Security Officials”

In recent years, the bureaucracy of military-security establishment has become the propaganda arm of the Israeli “left.” At first, this may seem odd, but our passive military and various security services have been so taken over by the doctrine of political correctness that they will go to virtually any length to coddle and even embrace our enemies.

Pronouncements made by “unnamed senior security officials” have become the “facts” promulgated by the left-wing Israeli media. Hardly a broadcast goes by or a opinion piece is written in an Israeli newspaper that does not reference these unknown and supposed experts.

Consider these outrageous comments from “unnamed senior security officials” regarding Hamas in the last 24 hours:

It has often been found that even after providing good pet nutrients to your pets they still suffer with symptoms two years later. female viagra in india Gupta, a leading sexologist in canada viagra cheap Noida, Delhi and Gurgaon.
*Failure of a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas could lead to a security escalation.”

As we have noted over the years, the military-security establishment is terrified of Hamas and claims that everything under the sun “could lead to a security escalation.” In the past, the same “unnamed senior security officials” claimed a security escalation would be caused by hundreds of such things as the failure to pay Hamas blackmail money, the failure to allow Hamasniks to pray at the Temple Mount, and the failure to open the border crossings.

In point of fact, Hamas and Islamic Jihad unleash missile barrages on Israel whenever they are ordered to by Iran, whenever internal politics in Gaza dictate, and whenever they feel like it. As we all know by now, Israel could release every Hamas prisoner from every Israeli prison and be attacked by Hamas the next day. Hamas looks at so-called prisoner exchanges as great victories which show yet again the weakness of Israel.

*Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is now advocating a more pragmatic approach to Israel and willing to compromise.”

Statements like this are just a joke. Sinwar was particularly chosen because he is a hard-line Hamas leader who repeatedly states that he will not rest until the Zionists are eliminated and the Palestinians have control of all of what is now Israel. In the spirit of Yasser Arafat, he now gives speeches with a gun in his belt to indicate what his intentions are. Willing to compromise?

*If Israel dramatically improves the economic situation in Gaza, Hamas will cease violence for a “long-term.”

Statements like this come from whole idiotic school of thought that Israel is responsible for Gaza. For these “humanitarian” believers, the Palestinians are nothing but infants who will die if Israel doesn’t pour money and humanitarian supplies into the Palestinian state.

*Hamas is at an “all-time low” in terms of its power and popularity, and now is the time for Israel to compromise.”

An insane misreading of the situation. You may remember last week that other “unnamed security officials” declared that Iran is leaving Syria. What was the purpose of that statement about Iran? To suggest that Israel can begin decreasing attacks on Iranians and Iranians proxies.

What do you think would happen if there were elections in Gaza tomorrow morning? Hamas would overwhelmingly win. With more sophisticated and even more primitive weapons at its disposal than ever, Hamas is more powerful than it has ever been.

The bottom line? The next time you hear any comments from “unnamed Israeli security officials”, take them with a gigantic dose of salt.
