The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona update . . .
The newest details as of 5 pm Sunday:
*There are 16,458 confirmed cases of Corona (an increase of only 22 in the last 36 hours)
*65 Israelis are on ventilators (an increase of 2)
*248 Israelis have died (an increase of 3)
*11,229 Israelis have recovered (an increase of 155)
In sum, the curves have all flattened and/or are going in the right direction which is why the government continues to loosen restrictions.
Kindergartens opened today; 60% of the children enrolled showed up:
Social distancing regulations remain in effect, but there have been egregious examples of them not being obeyed. For example, there was mass chaos at the Tel Aviv bus station this morning when hundreds of people had to wait for a bus to arrive (too many passengers for the number of buses).
The government will be sworn in on Wednesday, but a disaster looms . . .
Everything remains in flux. The simple fact is that because PM Netanyahu has given so many ministerships to Benny Gantz’s party members, he does not have enough ministerships to hand out to members of Likud and to Yamina.
Yamina in particular is teetering on the edge of not joining the coalition and joining the opposition:
If Yamina is not in the government, it will be a disaster–and it will mean that Netanyahu has caved into the left. There will be no voice for the community members of Judea and Samaria, no voice for Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount, and no voice for dealing with the terrorists in Gaza.

It will also mean that Netanyahu has once again thrown the Israeli right under the bus.
Let’s pray that some last minute deal will enable them to join the new government.
Speaking of teetering on the edge . . .
If you can believe this, there is serious discussion going on at the moment of dismantling Israel’s iconic national airline El Al. Because of the Corona crisis, there is not enough money to bail out the airline again. The government is demanding that the airline fire thousands of workers in order to receive governmental assistance.
What will happen is anyone’s guess.
Speaking of PM Netanyahu . . .
It has been decided that the opening of the trial against PM Netanyahu on May 24 will not be televised.
A strange twist in Gaza and Ramallah . . .
Interestingly, banks operating in Gaza and Ramallah announced several days ago that they were freezing the accounts of families of so-called “shaheeds” that receive money because of the terrorism that their relatives committed against Israelis.
The fact is that the banks were about to face massive sanctions instituted by the U.S. government–not to mention lawsuits brought by terror victims.
Neverthless, you can be sure that some means will be found to funnel money to the terrorist families.

The Absurd Claim That Iran Has Left Syria
Last week, we reported here at OneIsrael that “senior unnamed security officials” were proclaiming that Iran was pulling up stakes and leaving Syria.
Afterwards we pointed out how absurd that claim is.
Today, courtesy of nziv.net we have more insight into just how absurd. Take a look at the following graphic:
Iran and its proxies are as strong as ever and basically control all areas in western Syria which abut the Israeli border–including who goes in and out of the DMZ areas in Syria.
