Abhorrent Quote of the Day:
“We had to defuse the ticking time bomb. We did what we had to do in order to prevent bloodshed on both sides.”
Shabak Head Yoram Cohen in an interview on Galei Zahal Radio yesterday, defending himself and his organization against charges that they tortured a confession out of Amiram Ben Uliel. As you know, Uliel–after spending nearly 5 years in solitary confinement–was found guilty by a kangaroo court two days ago of three counts of murder in the Duma case.
“Defuse the ticking time bomb?” What a perverted joke.
There was no ticking time bomb. Shabak rounded up around two dozen suspects and spent the better part of a month torturing them all. Eventually it was only Uliel who was offered up on the altar of “preventing bloodshed on both sides.”
The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona update . . .
*5 am Friday: There are now 16,683 confirmed cases of Corona in Israel of whom 13,724 have recovered. 36 people are on ventilators. 279 Israelis have died.
What is quite remarkable is that 6,938 Corona tests were performed on Israelis yesterday; only 11 tested positive.
Cyber attacks on Israeli sites continue . . .
A massive cyber attack against Israel took place yesterday. According to YNET, the list of hacked sites include: “various municipalities, United Hatzalah (a volunteer-based emergency medical services organization), the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) Authority, several Israeli-based NGOs, the official site of Meretz party leader, Nitzan Horowit, food chains, including Coffix and Nafis as well as the site of Israel’s most popular espresso and coffee chain, Aroma.”
The hack attacks appear to be coming from Hamas in Gaza–acting on behalf of the Iranians.
But of course this news will not stop our government from trucking in tons of materials to Hamas everyday.
Throwing our friends under the bus . . .
Again yesterday we saw what is sure to be a steady drip, drip, drip of leftism creeping into our government.
Hungarian FM Peter Shiratu issued a statement supporting the possible Israeli move to declare sovereignty over parts of Area C of Judea and Samaria. More specifically, Shiratu’s statement was meant to counter all of the ranting emanating from the European union against sovereignty and annexation.
Shiratu went on to say that he had spoken to new Israel FM Gabi Ashkenazi and said that the two had agreed on the shared values of patriotic sovereignty and resistance to illegal immigration.
Immediately, Ashkenazi’s office–instead of praising Shiratu and Hungary–demanded a “clarification” and eventually forced Shiratu to retract the statement and even humiliated the Hungarians into saying that their statement was a mistranslation of what Shiratu and Ashkenazi had discussed.
Sadly, the bottom line is that the Gantz-Ashkenazi duo is far more in line with the mainstream European Union than with those governments within the EU who resist its dictates about Israel.

TODAY’S BLOG:
Jerusalem Shelanu!
“The story of Jerusalem is a story that expresses the power of the Jewish people, who, after two thousand years of exile with struggles and wars, managed to return to Eretz Israel, establish a national home, build the IDF Defense Forces, and return to our eternal capital–a united Jerusalem. It is a story of triumph and hope, and every girl and boy in Israel must know it. They must know the significance, uniqueness, and importance of Jerusalem.”
Yoav Gallant, Israel’s new Minister of Education, speaking yesterday
By all accounts (your humble servant is still under a quarantine and could not attend), it was a wonderful 53rd Yom Yerushalayim–Jerusalem Day!
A moving ceremony was held at Ammunition Hill which recounted the story of the brave soldiers who took the fortification against all odds from its Jordanian occupiers.
At that ceremony, PM Netanyahu reiterated his support for President Trump’s peace vision which includes sovereignty over parts of Area C, and reiterated his promise to not stop construction in Jerusalem.
But surprisingly, it was President Rivlin who was most eloquent. Here are a few lines from his speech:
“53 years ago we fought for Jerusalem whereas today we have to declare a new war. Not a war for the liberation of the city, but a war for the development of Jerusalem. This war is not a six-day war.
The real war is for the quality of life in Jerusalem by maintaining peace and quiet on its streets and becoming a thriving metropolis. This is a 100-year war–a long-term war to be waged.
In our Jerusalem . . . every place is important: Katamon, the City of David, Beit Safafa, Ma’ale Zeitim, Pisgat Ze’ev, Beit Hanina, Rehavia, Abu Tor, Ezrat Torah, and Gilo–these are all parts of the same city that we continue to put together. “
In short, we all should fight for a united Jerusalem.
Elsewhere in the capital, the annual Flag Parade proceeded through the Sha’ar Shechem and streets of the city:

As many have said, Jerusalem is the heart and soul of Israel or to put it more simply: Jerusalem Is Ours!—Jerusalem Shelanu!!
