The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona update . . .
10 am Tuesday: There are now 19,338 confirmed cases of Corona in Israel of whom 15,438 have recovered. 27 Israelis are on ventilators. 302 Israelis have died.
Corona attention is now on south Tel Aviv and Yaffo where 324 new cases have been confirmed in the last 15 days. More specifically, the hardest hit areas are the Hope Neighborhood, the Levinsky Market area, and the Central Station. 14o of these cases are foreign workers. In a demographic shift, within the 324 cases, 29% are aged 0-19, 47% are aged between 20-49, 13% are 50-69 years old, and only 2% are between the ages of 70-89.
Israel has signed an agreement with Moderna to receive a new vaccine against Corona–if and when the vaccine curently under experimentation proves effective. The Moderna vaccine is in its 3rd and final stage of testing with a 30,000 person trial scheduled to begin in July. Early reports had suggested that the U.S. and U.K. would be the first countries to get a proven vaccine, but now Israel can be added to the list.
The tip of the iceberg? . . .
37 Peruvian Jews immigrated to Israel in the past few days spurred (they said) by the Corona epidemic that has gripped Peru and the rioting in the streets–both of which have left the economy in shreds.
For some time now, Israeli immigration officials have been warning about a post-Corona wave of immigration that the country must ready itself for.
Follow up to yesterday’s blog about the incident in Hevron . . .
The six Jewish minors “detained” after the incident with the Palestinian man have all been released to house detention pending their appearance in court.

Payments To PLO Terrorists, Extortion Money to Hamas Terrorists, No Response to Terror Attacks: The Gantz Era Has Begun
Yesterday was just another one of those surreal days along the Gaza border.
To begin with, “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz signed off on the delivery of $50 million dollars in blackmail money from Qatar to Hamas. The express purpose of the money is to ensure that no explosive balloons or missiles are fired into southern Israel.

The ink was not dry on that agreement before Palestinian terrorists launched more explosive balloons into southern Israel starting more fires–notably at Moshav Tidhar beside Ofakim. More than a dozen such fires have been started in the last two days.
As if that wasn’t enough, by evening, Palestinian terrorists launched at least one missile into southern Israel that blew up in an “open space’ in the Eshkol Region. In response, our “Defense” Minister authorized an attack on an empty building and two sand dunes in Gaza.
You may recall during all the electioneering last year and this year, Gantz continually lambasted the Netanyahu government for not attacking Hamas and for paying money to the terrorists.
And yet, just a few weeks into his tenure, we find Gantz refusing to attack the terrorists last night and signing off on the blackmail payments. Even Israeli television which used to laud its darling Gantz endlessly, played video after video of his laughable “tough talk” about Gaza.
In one of those video clips, Gantz blathered: “The security agenda is unfortunately being set not by Israel but by Yahya Sinwar and the heads of Hamas. Israel must return the initiative to its hands, with tougher policies that will make Hamas want to restore complete quiet. Instead of quiet being met with quiet, attacks have been met with suitcases of money. Netanyahu must keep his promise and end his policies of hesitancy.”
How quickly Gantz’s true colors have revealed themselves yet again.
“Yet again” because we always knew who Benny Gantz was and is.
Yesterday, the parents of Oron Shaul, whose body parts were never returned to Israel following the 2014 war with Palestinian Gaza that Gantz incompetently managed, blasted Gantz in this statement:
“There is an unimaginable distance between his public statements and his actions. His action to allow $50 million dollars to be paid to Hamas are a disgrace. Gantz served as the IDF Chief of Staff during ‘Operation Protective Edge’ and he is the commander that left our son Hadar in Hamas captivity. Instead of holding to the IDF’s moral imperative of returning all the fighters from the battlefield; he has begun his term as Defense Minister by surrendering to Hamas.”
Actually, as we reported here at OneIsrael, Gantz began his term a few weeks ago by refusing to deduct tax money paid by the PLO to terrorists.
Indeed, the Gantz era at the Defense Ministry has begun.
