The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
A Palestinian terrorist carried out a stabbing attack at the Qalandiya Crossing; two Border Police were lightly wounded.
Palestinian terrorists cut an infiltration hole in the security fence at Kochav Ya’akov. When spotted they threw Molotovs along the perimeter of the community starting fires.
Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis with “rocks” and Molotovs at such places as along Road 60, Luban A-Sharqiya, Tekoa, and on Road 443.
Palestinian terrorists in Gaza launched a missile toward southern Israel last night which fortunately blew up in Gaza.
The daily Corona update . . .
As of 8 am this morning (Sunday):
there are 23,421 confirmed cases—an increase of 621 since this time yesterday
17,002 of these have recovered—an increase of 130
41 are in serious condition—a decrease of 5
23 are on ventilators—a decrease of 5
317 have died–an increase of 3
More perplexing numbers from the Health Ministry: as the number of confirmed cases continues to spike upwards, the number of Israelis in serious condition and on ventilators decreases. Unfortunately, the number of deaths has also increased.
Corona economic hard times coming . . .
Unemployment benefits are scheduled to end on June 30 to those who were not on unemployment before the Corona virus arrival.
At the moment, unless the government makes changes, 134,000 Israelis will no longer be eligible for unemployment benefits, and another 128,000 will receive reduced benefits.
What areas in Israel will be hardest hit?
Jerusalem now has 82,450 unemployed; Tel Aviv 58,589; Rishon Lezion 32,509; Haifa 28,796; Petah Tikva 26,500; Ashdod 23,934; and Beersheva 20,182.
A follow-up on Parchin . . .
As we reported here several days ago, a major explosion occurred at the Iranian Parchin Weapons Complex two nights ago.
Immediately the next morning, Iranian television broadcast “news” from the site purporting to show that it was merely a gas pipe that caused the huge explosion.
Satellite photos released yesterday tell a different story:
No one knows for sure, but the blast destroyed some major weapons repository or laboratory or ??? underground.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Countdown To July 1 Is On
It is now three days until PM Netanyahu may or may not reveal what is happening in Judea and Samaria vis a vis sovereignty and/or annexation.
With Corona raging again here and people demonstrating in the streets for all sorts of causes (unemployment benefits, rights for disabled, against Netanyahu, against the Finance Ministry, etc), the sovereignty/annexation discussion has almost taken a back seat in the past few weeks.
That doesn’t mean that nothing is happening.
Money is pouring in from overseas to try to stop the push to declare sovereignty/annex. In the UK alone, three organizations (Stand Together, Move On, Peace Now) have all banded together on social media to raise funds for use in Israel.
In the UK and in France, large street demonstrations have taken place against any possible Israeli declaration:
Again, PM Netanyahu is playing his cards so close to the vest that many are questioning whether anything will happen on July 1 or not? However, there are not-so-subtle signs that some announcement is afoot:
*Trump Administration officials have arrived in Israel perhaps to be on hand with a statement is issued.
*IDF forces along the Gaza border and in Judea and Samaria have apparently been given orders to prepare for possible violence.
*Justice Minister Ohana reversed a decision made last November and scheduled to go into effect on July 1 that would have reduced the number of security guards who can take their weapons home by 13,000.
And so it goes in Israel as the countdown to July 1 continues.
