A follow up to the story of the 14 year old boy yesterday . . .
Remember the story from yesterday about how the 14 year old was trying to walk around the Old City at night with a group of friends when he was arrested, taken to a police station, handcuffed to a bench with nothing to eat or drink, and left there overnight.
As expected, the boy’s family has hired Attorney Itamar Ben Gvir to represent the youth. Yesterday Ben Gvir said that “A huge lawsuit will be filed against the police.”

The Declaration of Sovereignty: Going Nowhere Fast?
Here we are at June 30th, one day before PM Netanyahu was supposed to start the sovereignty ball rolling.
However, there are at least four reasons to believe this morning that our long hoped for declaration of sovereignty over the Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley is going nowhere fast. Unless PM Netanyahu can summon up the courage to stay the course, such a declaration may never happen at all.
Let’s review the four reasons.
First, Netanyahu is running into extreme turbulence from our so-called “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz and our Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi. Both of them are running around telling everyone that July 1 is not written in stone and that declaring sovereignty over the Jordan Valley is out of the question. Apparently, Netanyahu has already caved in insofar as the Jordan Valley is concerned and would not include it in any declaration of sovereignty.
Second, there is an apparent problem with “mapping.” As you may remember, your humble servant wrote a blog back on January 30 entitled “The Devious Deception of the Trump Peace’Plan.” In that blog, I wrote how the Americans were backtracking on the issue of Israeli sovereignty, and I pointed to Jared Kushner’s remarks about “the technicalities” of the plan and the fact that he said that no proclamation of sovereignty could take place before “mapping” takes place.
This morning comes word that not only has such mapping not been completed, but also the “mapping team” has yet to go out into the “field” to view the situation on the ground.
Third, in the same blog, I pointed to this statement from American Secretary of State Mike Pompeo: “We are truly confident that this is a plan that is good for everyone – every Israeli and every Palestinian. And they’re [the Palestinians] . . . free to come up with a counter offer, if that’s what they think is appropriate. We’d look forward to that. We’re prepared to listen, and I know the Israelis will be prepared to sit down and negotiate on the basis of the vision that the President laid out.”
This morning comes word that the Palestinians have suddenly announced their willingness to negotiate “peace” with Israel. In a text sent to the long dormant “Quartet” (the U.N., the E.U. the U.S., and Russia), the Palestinians say they are ready to begin at the point where negotiations broke off in 2014–based on the June 4 1967 lines (aka 1949 Armistice Lines) with “minor territorial swaps.” Essentially, the PLO would appear to have fulfilled Pompeo’s requirement.
Fourth, back on May 28, I discussed how one particular member of Trump’s team, Nationl Security Council member C. Scott Leith, “has been attempting to foist changes into the map that benefit the Palestinians.” Apparently Leith, who just returned to Israel, is now trying to do just that. He and his cohort, Avi Berkowitz, are in no hurry to see sovereignty move forward.
So we end today where we started. Does PM Netanyahu have the backbone to stand up and make a sovereignty declaration or not? Or will tomorrow put us on a downward slope toward no sovereignty being extended in Judea and Samaria at all?
What PM Netanyahu does tomorrow will speak volumes as to what his legacy will be.
