These placards have been plastered all over Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem by the sovereignty movement led by the Women in Green. Let’s hope PM Netanyahu does stand strong.
The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona update . . .
As of 8 am this morning (Sunday):
There are 29,170 confirmed cases—an increase of 1115 since this time yesterday
17,816 of these recovered—an increase of 147
84 are in serious condition—an increase of 7
32 are on ventilators—an increase of 5
330 have died–an increase of 4
Obviously, the news is not good. The surging number of “confirmed cases” is now being accompanied by a steadily rising number of people in serious condition, people on ventilators, and people who have died.
The hardest hit cities in the last 72 hours: 434 new cases reported in Jerusalem, 220 in Bnei Barak, 207 in Tel Aviv, and 165 here in Ashdod. At one single location in Bnei Brak, Beit Matiyahu, 180 men tested positive for Corona.
It is now estimated that out of the 14,000 restaurants operating in Israel, 4,000 of them will be closed by the end of the year.
One would think that such numbers would put a damper on Israelis traveling around the country, but that is not the case. Nearly 100,000 families visited national parks and reserves yesterday. Your humble servant and his wife were two of them. We drove down to En Avdat near Sde Boker to wade in the pools there. Unfortunately, the pools were closed so we just walked among the rocks in the blazing 100 F desert heat–along with thousands of other visitors.

Speaking of Israelis out and about . . .
Numerous Israelis flocked to Eilat this weekend. Click on the following link to see the panic that ensued when an unwelcome visitor intermingled with some people swimming in the Red Sea (click here).
That unwelcome visitor was a shark–but not a great white. It was a non-dangerous whale shark, but of course those on the beach didn’t know that.
Do you want to see what security in a Jewish enclave community in a state of “Palestine” would be like? . . .
Check out this extremely disturbing video that shows Palestinian “police” (aka PLO terrorists) ordering Israeli soldiers out of Yatta yesterday. Yatta, which is located near Hevron, is under PLO administration as part of Area A.
As you watch the video, note the heavily armed Palestinian gunmen and the total lack of fear they show of the Israeli soldiers. We can only imagine that the same thing would happen if IDF troops were called to an Israeli enclave in “Palestine.”
Cick here to watch the 26 second video from yesterday.
Thank goodness for the Iron Dome? . . .
Terrorists fired a missile at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad yesterday.
There are unconfirmed reports that a Patriot missile that tried to intercept the incoming missile failed, but that an Iron Dome battery (presumably obtained from Israel) shot the missile down.
An interesting short article . . .
Your humble servant encourages you to read “50 Reasons To Make Aliyah” by Tzvi Fishman on Arutz Sheva today. It is written from a religious perspective but non-Jews may find it illuminating.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Could This Be “Sovereignty Week”?
With all the talk about Corona (and that is virtually all there is in the Israel media these days), could this be the week that sovereignty slips in the back door?
Yes, there are protests against sovereignty both here in Israel and elsewhere, but Corona is dominating the news. And yet we heard last week from sources in the Trump Administration that this is the week when a decision will be made.
From President Trump’s perspective, one has to believe that he would prefer not to be dealing with sovereignty at all. With Corona spiking again in the U.S., the economy still faltering, protests continuing to rock American cities, and his popularity numbers at an all-time low, President Trump must want to put sovereignty behind him and garner millions of evangelical votes along the way.
As for PM Netanyahu, he must also want to get on with sovereignty. At first, it was just a pleasant distraction for Netanyahu from his laundry list of problems: Corona surge, hard-hit economy, going on trial in three corruption cases, and recent falling poll numbers (Likud went from an expected 41 seats in new elections to 38 in three major polls in the last week alone). Netanyahu must think that a positive outcome on sovereignty will secure his political base–not to mention his legacy if everything else goes south. Further, he must realize that the window on that legacy is closing rapidly since President Trump seems on the verge of possibly losing in November.
So let’s hope that this week is finally the week that the sovereignty ball starts rolling!
