344 have died–an increase of 2
Just taking the first two numbers, we can see that there are 15,219 active cases of Corona in Israel. The disturbing number continues to be those in “serious” condition–a number that is steadily increasing each day. Yesterday, a Health Ministry spokeswoman said that many of those classified as “serious” are in fact “critical” because the health system is trying hard not to use ventilators.
Another development is who is getting Corona. Dr. Michael Halbertel, the director of Rambam Hospital in Haifa said this yesterday: ” . . . we see that the severely ill are younger than before; the severely ill are in the 30-40 age range and not as we have seen before in the 70-60 age group.”
An Israeli company, Santek Medical, has developed a breathalyzer test for Corona. You merely breathe into the device and receive the results in 10 seconds. The prototype is already being tested at Meir Hospital’s corona ward in Kfar Saba, and it is hoped that widespread distribution will take place within a month. Such a test will change the face of society. Each person can be immediately tested before he or she gets on an airplane, walks into a restaurant, attends a sporting event, etc.
An update on sovereignty . . .
There is no update. Either the planned meeting at the White House yesterday did not happen or it happened and no one is talking about it.
One event that has definitely not happened is the quarterly meeting of the Higher Planning Council for Judea and Samaria. The main item on the agenda was supposed to have been the plan to build 400 residences in Har Bracha, one of the 15 “enclave” communities under the Trump plan.
What this looks like to many is yet another Netanyahu freeze–first he promises to build, then immediately freezes.

The Beginning of the Flood?
40 new immigrants from the United States arrived at Ben Gurion Airport yesterday–on the same flight that brought your humble servant to Israel back in May.
More specifically, they came from Colorado, Texas, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, New Jersey, California, and New York–and ranged in age from 4 to 78 years old.
Is this the beginning of the flood of some 500,000 new immigrants that the country has been preparing for since the outbreak of Corona? Since March, more than 7,000 Jews have moved here, and last month saw more than 25,000 aliya applications.
Immigration and Immigration Minister MK Pnina Tamano-Shatta had this to say yesterday: “I am pleased and welcome the arrival of the new immigrants from the United States . . . Despite the challenges facing us due to the Corona epidemic, the state of Israel is, always was, and will remain open at all times, in times of crisis as in normal times. . . . great waves of immigration are expected in the coming years.”
