The Idiotic and Non-Democratic Quote of the Day
“It is time for the people of Israel to understand that Netanyahu has not won in any election. Unfortunately, he managed to bring about the surrender of Ganz and Ashkenazi, and we must replace him. I hope that this public pressure [the current demonstrations] will cause shocks. In the end, Netanyahu must be removed – whether in the elections or not.”
Former Defense Minister and current Knesset member for the Yesh Atid/Telem Party, speaking on a Ynet broadcast last night
Netanyahu has not won in any election? What planet is Ya’alon living on–Netanyahu has probably won more elections than practically any other politician in Israeli history.
“Netanyahu must be removed–whether in the elections or not”? This is the bottom line for the anti-Netanyahu forces: realizing that they cannot defeat Netanyahu in democratically held elections, they will resort to any other method to throw him out of office.
The irony is that Ya’alon, Lapid, and the other Black Flag demonstrators absurdly say they are demonstrating for democracy. Just the contrary, they are demonstrating to subvert the democratic process in this country.
The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
A Palestinian Hamas terrorist was captured attempting to infiltrate Israel by swimming near Zikim.
Palestinian terrorists attacked a Jewish child in Hevron for the second time this week. In the first terror attack, a teenaged boy was badly wounded in the head by a rock. Yesterday, a 12-year-old boy was beaten by a group of Palestinians.
Palestinian terrorists throwing “rocks” and Molotovs attacked Israelis throughout Judea and Samaria in such places as Luban A-Sharqiya, Al Aruv, on the Gush Etzion-Hevron Road, and near Hizma.
The daily Corona update . . .
As of 8 am this morning (Sunday): There are 72,218 confirmed cases—an increase of 1,248 since this time yesterday
45,102 of these confirmed cases have recovered—an increase of 1,252
328 are in critical condition–an increase of 7
96 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—a decrease of 2
526 have died–an increase of 14
There are 27,116 active cases.
The death toll continues to mount and the number of patients in critical condition continues to surge, yet all signs point to more restrictions being lifted in the coming week as the Corona czar continues to insist that the second wave has plateaued. Whatever the case, hundreds of thousands of Israelis hit the beaches and nature reserves (and shopping malls which were supposed to have been closed) yesterday.
The Israeli police take sides . . .
Try to wrap your minds around this dear reader.

Anti-Netanyahu protesters (“He is responsible for all of our suffering”) were in the streets again last night. Permanent encampments have been set up in front of Netanyahu’s home in Jerusalem and his home in Caesarea. There is little attempt by the police to restrict the “protesters” who have been embraced by Israeli politicians on the left and the Israeli media as “the champions of democracy.”
Also last night, pro-Netanyahu demonstrators in the form of Im Tirzu and La Familia attempted to protest in front of the house of Israel Supreme Court Justice Esther Hayut’s home in the ritzy Tel Aviv neighborhood of Tzahala. But guess what? The Israeli Police established a 1 km perimeter around Hayut’s house, and then proceeded to haul dozens of demonstrators away anyway.
By the way, all of the La Familia protesters who were arrested two nights ago were ordered released this morning.

TODAY’S BLOG
Shaked’s Law:
Will Netanyahu and Likud Put Their Money Where Their Mouth Is?
How many times have we seen PM Netanyahu backtrack on promises he has made to the “right” in Israel? New neighborhoods are promised in Jerusalem which never materialize; new construction is promised in Judea and Samaria which never happens; a declaration of sovereignty was promised on July 1 which has apparently been put on an indefinite hold–the list is endless.
Now comes another moment at which PM Netanyahu and his Likud party have a chance to fulfill a promise to the “right”.
On Wednesday, former Justice minister and current Knesset member Ayelet Shaked is going to bring a proposed law to the Knesset. The “Overrule Law” would:
1. . . . require that no Knesset law can be struck down by the Supreme Court unless a panel of at least 11 judges rule on the law. Whether the Court is sitting as 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15 members, 2/3’s of the justiceS must agree to strike down.
2. . . . establish that the Knesset can overrule a Court decision to strike down a Knesset law by a simple majority of 61 votes. Such a vote would need to be renewed every 5 years.
As Shaked wrote last night on Twitter: “A special opportunity will arise this week for Knesset members from the right-wing bloc – an opportunity to stop whining, an opportunity to stop the judicial piracy,”
Obviously, Shaked’s law is an attempt to stop the egregious overreach of Supreme Court that effectively neuters the Knesset and in effect runs the country. There is no reason in the world for any member of the right-wing block to oppose the Law since the entire block has repeated blasted the Court for its one-sided decisions.
In fact, the Likud Chairman Miki Zohar said that this morning, stating that it is time for the Right to support the Law. Also, this is a Law that Netanyahu promised he would have enacted if he became prime minister again.
Nevertheless, the Blue and White Coalition led by Benny Gantz is dead set against the Law because it ludicrously claims that the Law would somehow rob the Court of its judicial independence. They have stated today that if the Law passes, the Coalition will crumble.
As we have previously written, this is a Coalition that was rotten to begin with, and if Shaked’s Law causes it to crumble, so be it. A law like Shaked’s Law should have been passed long ago.
Will Netanyahu keep his promise? Will the Likud legislators support the Law? Your humble servant strongly doubts that either will happen.
