The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In Judea and Samaria:

In addition to the murder of Rabbi Ohayon, Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis with “rocks” and Molotovs at Anatot, Al-Fawwar (a soldier was wounded), Psagot, Beit Omer, Halhul (3 Israelis were wounded), Hevron, Karmei Tzur, and near the T-Junction in Gush Etzion.

On the Gaza border:

More than 30 fires scorched ever more forest and agricultural land yesterday as Palestinian terrorists in Gaza continue sending explosive balloon clusters into southern Israel.

The “balloons” reached as far as Beersheva, but the major fires were at Be’eri and Kissufim.

One balloon cluster landed at a ceramics factory in Netivot.

Hezbollah terror . . .

The newest information about the Menara incident yesterday is that a Hezbollah sniper team fired two shots at the IDF position.

It is now believed that there are 4 Hezbollah terror units awaiting orders from Beirut to attack Israel.

Frozen in Judea and Samaria . . .

It has now been six months since the Planning Board of the Civil Administration has convened (just before the last election). As a result, no new construction has been approved in Area C during that time.

Who is responsible for the freeze? PM Netanyahu.

A paltry 5,500 housing units await approval for immediate construction. As the Yesha Council for Judea and Samaria angrily declared yesterday:

“For the past six months, not a single housing unit has been approved in the area. and we do not hear from anyone about a final date for convening the Planning Board . . . The prime minister has rejected sovereignty, we must move to actions on the ground . . . without political approvals and restrictions that do not exist in other parts of the State of Israel.”

Some very black humor . . .

A strange story from Shechem yesterday.

A Palestinian mother went to the house of another Palestinian family which she accuses of murdering her two sons. She proceeded to burn out the inside the house, and then sit on top of house with a gun daring anyone to come arrest her.

Pictures of the woman went viral in Palestinian and Israeli social media:

The woman perched on top of the house which is still smoldering.

What were perversely humorous were comments in Israeli social media:

*Where are the Palestinian police?

*This must be a hate crime by Jewish settlers.

*Did she get permission from the Israel High Court of Justice to burn down the house?

*Playing with fire.

Rabbi Shai Ohayon:

How Absurd Policies Led To His Murder

Yesterday morning, 39-year-old Rabbi Shai Ohayon left his home in Petah Tikva after saying good-bye to his wife Sivan and their four children (4, 9, 11, 13). It was the last time he ever spoke to them.

On his way back home from the kollel where he studied, he was attacked from behind in a crosswalk at the Segula Junction. The attacker, a Palestinian, stabbed him repeatedly. The attacker then fled but was captured by a citizen who chased him.

Despite the efforts of MADA, the Rabbi was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at the hospital.

Last night, Rabbi Ohayon was buried.

Ready for the grave.

Ready for the grave.

How was this murder a symbol of what’s wrong?

1. The Palestinian terrorist is 46-year-old Khalil Abd al-Kahlek Muhammad Doikat, a 46-year old resident of a Palestinian settlement near Shechem (Nablus).  The holder of a work permit in Israel, Doikat worked at a nearby construction site.

Our government continues to flood the country with tens of thousands of Palestinian workers because of idiotic “humanitarian policies” of political correctness. There is no reason to bring more and more potential terrorists into Israel from Areas A and B and Gaza when workers from such places as Romania, Albania, and Thailand are in abundant supply.

If Palestinians need a job, send them to Jordan or Egypt.

2. At the scene of the stabbing, passersby and the police did not shoot the terrorist.

Not surprisingly, passersby and the police stated last night that they were “afraid” to shoot the terrorist. How many times do we have to point out that the IDF prosecution of soldiers who have killed terrorists, and the prosecution of police and Border Guards who have killed terrorists has made all of us vulnerable to attacks like the one yesterday.

3. The police immediately announced that they believed that the terrorist was mentally unstable.

It is amazing how quickly police spokesmen and IDF spokesmen quickly look for reasons to excuse terrorism. To believe them, every Palestinian is unstable and therefore deserves absolution for every terror attack they carry out.

4. Apparently, the police based their “unstable opinion” on a conversation they had after the attack and on reports that Doikat was recently treated for depression by the PLO’s health and welfare services.

Why is Doikat “depressed”? Because he had six daughters and no sons.

But does anyone really believe that is why Doikat murdered Rabbi Ohayon? Of course not. From the moment he was arrested, Doikat began drawing a salary from the PLO–a salary made all the higher because he killed an Israeli. And let us not forget that our “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz refuses to offset those salary payments from tax monies paid to the PLO.

5. PM Netanyahu responded to the murder on Twitter where he wrote: “And four children who are left without a father today. We will work to demolish the terrorist’s house and carry out the most severe punishment.”

This response is a joke. Rabbi Ohayon is dead and Netanyahu proclaims the terrorist’s house will be destroyed. The High Court will never permit the house to be destroyed because it will be argued that the terrorist’s wife and children did not know what he was going to do–and in any case, they should not be put out on the street.

So there you have it.

An absurd policy that brings Palestinian terrorists into the country; an absurd policy that prosecutes those who defend us; an absurd policy that seeks to rationalize and excuse Palestinian terrorism; an absurd policy by which Israel actually facilitates payments to terrorists; and an absurd policy that somehow tries to equate destroying a house to murdering an Israeli.

The bottom line? Rabbi Shai Ohayon lies in his grave today. His wife is a widow, and his children have no father.
