The Sadly Naive Quote of the Day
“We, the residents of the envelope, will continue to stand firm and show resilience, to grow and rejoice, even under the security threat. We also continue to hope that on the other side of the fence, we will soon begin to see a change in willingness to accept us as an integral part of this place.”
Minister and Cabinet Member Alon Schuster
This statement means more coming from Schuster who was the mayor of Sha’ar Hanegev on the Gaza border before becoming a member of the Knesset. However, as bravely resolute as it is in proclaiming that southern Israelis will “grow and rejoice’ even as missiles and explosive balloons continue to rain down, it is ultimately as naive a statement as you will ever see.
The idea that Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza will ever accept Israel as an integral part of what they call “Palestine” is absurd.
The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona (Covid-19) update as of 8 am this morning . . .
There are 118,538 confirmed cases—an increase of 1,942 since this time yesterday
96,214 of these confirmed cases have recovered—an increase of 1,210
414 are in critical condition–a decrease of 23
116 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—a decrease of 9
957 have died–an increase of 18
There are 22,324 active cases.
Simply put, Corona is not slowing down. With the school year now in full swing, we can expect scores of new cases.
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
In Judea and Samaria:
According to the most recent reports, the terrorist you see on the sidewalk above ran over a policeman and a soldier at the Tapuach Junction and then jumped out of his car and charged toward other security officials with a knife before he was shot. Both the policeman and soldier are in moderate condition; unfortunately, the terrorist appears to have survived.
On the Gaza border:
Yesterday was supposed to have been the dawn of a new day given the signing of the 1-month “truce” agreement between Hamas and Israel. No more missiles, no more explosive balloons, no more violence of any kind directed at Israelis in southern Israel.
After all Israel and Qatar enthusiastically kowtowed to every Hamas blackmail demand which included:
*100,000 Hamas families will receive $100 each
*Unemployed Hamasniks will be employed by the Ministries of the Interior and Health and have their salaries paid by Qatar
*$1,000,000 will be distributed to the “refugee camps” to deal with Corona (isn’t it amazing how Hamas maintains Palestinian refugee camps in Palestinian Gaza?)
*$1,000,000 will be doled out to students studying at universities in Gaza
*$1,000,000 will be given to people over 30 years old who have not married
*$2,000,000 will be designated for housing rehabilitation

However, as we all know, this “truce” is not worth the paper it is written on.
Explosive balloons continue being launched out of Gaza–one cluster landed at Sycamore Farm, the farm owned by the family of the late PM Ariel Sharon.
Those balloons caused 25 fires yesterday.
Two knife-wielding Hamas terrorists from northern Gaza were captured while trying to infiltrate Israel and kill Israelis last night. This comes on the heels of the bizarre announcement that the local reserve squads (the first responders to terror events) on the Gaza border were ordered by the IDF General Command to turn in their weapons yesterday.
Can you believe it?
The leader of one such squad said this: “We do not understand this decision. How can we in this area be unarmed? There was a recent incident here of a Palestinian who infiltrated from Gaza with grenades and the stand-by squad was the one that saved the situation. This decision is dangerously delusional.”
Speaking of IDF delusions . . .
In the face of continuing controversy over the fact that the IDF did nothing during this latest outbreak of violence with Hamas to stop the launching of missiles and explosive balloons, the IDF spokesman released several items yesterday.
First was a graphic showing the location of 100 IAF “strikes” (some places were supposedly hit more than once) in the last 20 days in Gaza:
It does not look impressive to those of us living in the south because we know that every “strike” location along the border was an empty sand dune, and all the ones between those strikes and the sea were of empty buildings. As we have noted, not one single terrorist was killed or wounded during these 100 “strikes.”
In fact, a 20-second video that was also released by the IDF spokesman shows several spots that were bombed during the last few weeks. But as you watch the video, look very closely (and quickly). At first you see a building or two, then you see the bomb blast, but then if you slow it down you will see that the buildings were not hit. Click here for the video. A Shockingly Misreported Message From The UAE
—
Context: As we have often written here at OneIsrael, there is a bizarre inability of the Israeli media and even Israeli politicians to understand the difference between “annexation” and “sovereignty.” This inability to distinguish the difference extends to international politicians and the international media as well.
For all of these people, Israel wants to “annex” Judea and Samaria. All we read about is annexation, annexation, annexation, even though it has been explicitly declared that we are not interested in annexing but rather we are interested in declaring sovereignty over territory in Area C that we already have.
—
But apparently, there is one person who does understand the difference and that is Jamal Musharrah, the Director General of the United Arab Emirates.
Yesterday, we had this bizarre sequence of events:
1. Musharrah was asked by Israeli reporters at a press conference in the UAE if the normalization agreement would be voided if Israel annexed the communities in Area C. He replied “yes.”
2. Then Musharrah was asked if the normalization agreement would be voided if Israel declared sovereignty over the communities. He said “no.”
3. Next, the Israeli media led by the Jerusalem Post and the Israeli television networks rushed to misreport that the UAE said that normalization would continue even if Israel annexed Area C communities.
4. Finally, Musharrah was forced to repeat what he said before, to wit that the UAE position had not changed–that normalization would be voided if annexation occurred.
Assuming that Musharrah is not forced to retract what he said, his statement concerning sovereignty is shockingly hopeful. Of course, it is possible that he too is confused by “annexation” and “sovereignty.”
At the same time, the incredibly slack journalism of Israeli reporters has once again been on display for all to see.
