The News on the Israeli Street
The daily Corona (Covid-19) update as of 8 am this morning . . .
There are 126,419 confirmed cases—an increase of 1,964 since this time yesterday
100,357 of these confirmed cases have recovered—an increase of 1,892
426 are in critical condition—an increase of 10
123 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an increase of 6
993 have died–an increase of 8
There are 26,062 active cases.
The situation has not improved over the last 24 hours. If anything, it has worsened with another 2000 new cases, more people in critical condition, and more people on ventilators. All of this and there was decreased testing yesterday–and there will be virtually no testing (except in hospitals) today because it is Shabbat.
We will undoubtedly pass another grim milestone tomorrow as the number of dead exceeds 1000.
Once again as in the first Corona wave, one of the hardest hit places in Israel are nursing homes. In the last two weeks, the number of nursing home staff infected with Corona has risen from just under 300 to 540. In one nursing home in Haifa, the number of elderly people infected increased from 20 to 60 this past week.
Meanwhile on the Temple Mount . . .
During the lead-up to the high holy days, many Jews who ascend the Temple Mount do so barefooted out of reverence for the site.
So what has the Islamic Wakf been doing?
Spreading broken glass along the stones on which the Islamic Wakf forces Jews to walk when they are on the Mount.
Numerous Jews have had to have medical attention after going to the holiest place in Judaism.
And our government does nothing.
Meanwhile in Iran . . .
Representatives of the IAEA, the International Atomic Energy Agency, reported yesterday that Iran now has 2,105 kg of uranium, about 10 times the amount that was specified under the nuclear agreement in 2015.
Of course, it has been the contention of your humble servant that Iran has had this amount of uranium and more since long before 2015 in their drive to produce nuclear weapons to destroy Israel.
Does anyone really believe that the Iranians allow IAEA inspectors to inspect all of their nuclear sites?

Eilat Day 3:
Not Herd Immunity, Herd Insanity
Regular readers of OneIsrael over the years know how much my family loves Eilat. We look forward to coming to this lovely city each year, both for the cosmopolitan atmosphere and the feeling that you are at the end of the world.
Despite the Corona situation pervading Israel, we decided to make the trip again this year. We opted to come while maintaining restrictive guidelines far beyond the normal.
Obviously, we wear a mask everywhere we go. We also carry anti-viral spray to wipe any surfaces we come in contact with. We wear gloves. We even carry hand sanitizer for our gloves.
We don’t go to the hotel swimming pool. We don’t walk on the Eilat promenade. We eat in our room. We don’t do any activity that involves being in close proximity with other people.
In short, we are acutely aware of the situation and try to mitigate it.
So what are we doing while here?
Mainly going to Chof Almog (Coral Beach), a nature preserve located about two miles down the coast from the main city, near the Egyptian border. This particular beach, unlike the others in Eilat, is strictly limiting the number of people admitted and is constructed so that each visiting family can have its own covered area to sit in.
What have we discovered in our forays to Chof Almog? And from what we can see from our hotel room?
Massive herd insanity.
Eilat is overrun by thousands of people who roughly fall into the age group of 17-27. None of them are wearing masks. None of them are taking any precautions whatsoever. And most of them are drunk.
Unfortunately, it appears that Eilat has become a party town for all of those young people who cannot have parties back in the towns and cities they come from in Israel.
Just yesterday, after we were already here, came news that the Corona Czar is recommending that no Israelis come to Eilat.
We see why and will be leaving early tomorrow.
A final thought: there is no doubt that many of the party-goers here now will go back home and infect their brothers, sisters, parents, and grandparents. We can expect another huge surge of Corona emanating from Eilat in the coming weeks.
