The Health Ministry says that the youngest Israeli victim of Corona this week was a six- year-old-girl, and the oldest was a 108-year-old woman. Overall, since the beginning of the Corona epidemic, 54% of the Israeli victims were male, and 46% were women.
Dysfunction in action: in a few hours, the government will be voting about whether to go ahead with the “high holy days lockdown” or to reject it or to pass a partial lockdown. Already, one important minister (Litzmann from United Torah Judaism) has threatened to resign if a total lockdown is approved. Other ministers such as Amir Peretz of Labor have also proclaimed that they will vote against a total lockdown.
The government is absolutely leaderless. It is nothing more than a group of chickens running around with their heads cut off, each one frantically doing nothing more than trying to protect his or her constituency.
El Al plane, private plane, El Al plane . . .
Nothing demonstrates the sorry state that Netanyahu has come to than his current airplane fiasco.
Originally, Netanyahu was supposed to fly to the U.S. today on the same El Al plane as his entourage. The government spent tens of thousands of dollars to outfit it with isolated sleeping quarters for the Netanyahus (Bibi, Sara, and their two sons).
Then, Bibi and Sara decided that they did not want to fly with everyone else because of the Corona virus. Instead, they wanted to spend $240,000 to hire a private jet.
However, when word of all this got out on Thursday, the Netanyahus were forced to backtrack and are now going to be on the El Al flight after all.
Again, as petty as this all seems, it is yet another example of the inability of Netanyahu to make a decision these days and stick to it. Everything Netanyahu does seems to change minute by minute.
TODAY’S BLOG:
What Agreements, Exactly, Is Netanyahu Going To Sign?
Tuesday will see the grand signing ceremony on the White House Lawn featuring President Trump with Netanyahu and the leaders of the UAE and Bahrain playing supporting roles.
However, just as Netanyahu has never revealed the sovereignty plan he was supposedly considering for Judea and Samaria, nobody in Israel (except for Netanyahu) knows any of the details of the agreements with the UAE and Bahrain.
One would think that a major peace or normalization agreement with another country would require public discussion as to its risks and benefits. Not so during the Netanyahu reign.
Whether he is negotiating with Washington, the UAE, Bahrain, Hamas or anyone else, Netanyahu always acts autocratically–keeping all the important information to himself.
Is this how a democracy is supposed to operate?
