Your humble servant is beginning to feel like the Corona man. Virtually all the news coming out of Israel these days is about the virus, the second wave, the lockdown, the failure of the lockdown, the ultra-orthodox and the left spreading the virus, and, and, and.

PM Netanyahu’s excellent recorded speech at the UN yesterday in which he revealed another Hezbollah missile factory in downtown Beirut was hardly noticed in the Israeli media last night which seemed more interested in the build up to the Biden-Trump “debate” last night.

There has been no mention of the death of leader of Kuwait, scant discussion of the war that has erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and next to nothing said about anything else.

So with no further ado, here’s the latest daily Corona update: 

There are 236,926 confirmed cases—an increase of 3,661

167,804 of these confirmed cases have recovered—an increase of 2,613

797 are in critical condition—an increase of 25

205 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—a decrease of 4

1,528 have died–an increase of 21 

There are now 69,122 active Corona cases in Israel.

The above numbers this morning are once again “low” because of the continued impact of few people being tested on Yom Kippur. 

Other Corona details today:

*According to Director General of the Ministry of Health, 34% of the Corona cases in Israel emanate from the ultra-orthodox community.

*Researchers from Hebrew University announced findings today that children under the age of 10 are infected at a much lower rate than older kids, and are much less contagious than older kids and adults. The researchers concluded that it is more dangerous for children under 10 to stay at home than to go to school.

*Yesterday, police issued 3,570 tickets for Corona violations. Most of them (2,134) were for being away from home for a prohibited purpose. Another 1,179 persons were fined for not wearing a mask. As an aside, the police could have given 3,570 tickets just to people walking in front of your humble servant’s home if they had wanted to.  

*More than 1000 soldiers in the IDF are now infected with Corona.

*A new study that has appeared in the Public Health Magazine at the University of Oxford purports to show that large scale demonstrations accelerate the spread of Corona. One would think that this is common sense, but it has been a subject of hot debate here in Israel. The research studied the demonstrations of more than 10,000 people associated with the Black Lives Matter movement in 8 major cities in the U.S. over 30 days and found a significant rise in Corona infections well beyond what would have been expected had no demonstrations occurred.

*Unrelated to the Oxford study, the Knesset has now finally passed restrictions limiting anti-Netanyahu demonstrations to groups of 20 who are protesting within 1 km of their home.
