Quotes of the Day
“From now on there will be two governments; the partnership is over.”
Zvi Hauser speaking yesterday on the ever widening chasm between the Kahol Lavan Party and the Likud Party.
What the last few weeks have seen is Benny Gantz refusing to put Corona restrictions on anti-Netanyahu demonstrators. See Today’s Blog below.
Speaking of those demonstrators, here is Quote 2:
“There was no one who obeyed the instructions: hundreds and perhaps thousands violated the rules. The protesters acted violently, we had to disperse the protesters to protect the health of the protesters.”
Commander of the Yarkon Region Police, Lt. Gen. Daniel Levy speaking about the violent demonstrations in Tel Aviv last night during which a policewoman was attacked and injured.

Try to wrap your mind around this dear reader.
Back on May 9, the PLO severed all security cooperation with Israel. As of that moment, the PLO Police were no longer allowed to enter Area C.
Yesterday, a group of 12 PLO policeman arrived at the Palestinian town of Ni’alin just west of Ramallah.
Once there, they went to the Mayor Imad Al-Kwaja’s office. It turns out that Mayor Kwaja just happened to illegally have an Israeli security vehicle which he then turned over to the PLO police.
They then hopped in and headed off into Area C for reasons unknown.
Shortly afterward, they were spotted by an IDF patrol, stopped, and arrested. They were then taken back to Ni’alin where they were released at the checkpoint to Area C. By the way, the Israeli vehicle that they had been driving around was impounded.
This episode illustrates how absurd the situation is in Judea and Samaria with the PLO “police” still operating almost at will to arrest people for whatever reason.

The “Dissolving” Coalition Government
For the most part, your humble servant has avoided writing about how the Coalition government seems on the verge of collapse. I have done so because the threats to dissolve the government and bring new elections are a common feature of Israeli politics everyday.
However, the manner in which Benny Gantz and his Kahol Lavan Party have undermined the government from the outside by encouraging the anti-Netanyahu demonstrators despite the Corona epidemic, while at the same taking steps to undermine the government from within deserves comment today.
Political reporter Tal Shalev of Walla!News has written a piece this morning that sums up the situation nicely. What follows is an emended version of her article:
“The masses of citizens who flooded hundreds of hotspots across the country yesterday with signs, drums and pots showed the government what a boomerang is: the decision to restrict the demonstrations only intensified them, and the attempt to suppress several thousand on Balfour [Street in Jerusalem in front of Netanyahu’s residence] spawned a protest like no other in recent memory.
The [1 km] mileage limit, which was supposed to prevent crowds, did just the opposite: the ease of getting out of the house [even for a great distance] made last night’s demonstrations a simple respite from quarantine, making them accessible to any citizen, anywhere . . .
Even within the government, the increased effort that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has invested to disperse the demonstrations in Balfour is now spinning in a boomerang. Although Netanyahu managed to get Gantz to agree to the demand to impose a stricter closure with restrictions on the demonstrations, Gantz soon discovered that it was one step too many and [backtracked] over the weekend . . .
In the face of bitter internal party division, the demonstrations outside, and the dramatic loss of seats in the polls, the Kahol Lavan leadership decided to change direction. On Thursday, after another shouting battle with Netanyahu in the Corona Cabinet, Gantz met with Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and Justice Minister Avi Nissenkorn. In the first phase, it was decided to begin the process of appointing the State Attorney in violation of an agreement with the Likud that freezes all senior appointments until a joint committee is established to examine reform in the method of appointments.
The combination of Kahol Lavan upheaval along with last night’s events and the protests in the streets are expected to accelerate until Thursday, when the government will be required to approve an extension of the special emergency to continue the strict closure and ban on demonstrations . . .
If the frontal confrontation between the Likud and Kahol Lavan continues, all roads lead in one direction: going to the polls at the end of December around the time when the budget is supposed to be approved.”
Once again, OneIsrael thanks to Talia Shalev for her insights.
