The Disturbing Quote of the Day

“The effectiveness of the first dose of Pfizer vaccine is lower than we thought. Between 30-40% of newly diagnosed people have the British mutation. It is not known whether the vaccine provides protection against that mutation.”

Dr. Nachman Ash, Israel Corona Czar

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Palestinian terrorists using “rocks” and Molotovs attacked Israelis at Al-Aruv, between Kiryat Arba and Hevron, Zububa near Jenin, the Avraham Hassano Junction on Mt. Hevron, between Ofra and Givat Assaf, near Tekoa, and between Yakir and Ravava among dozens of locations. It should be noted that numerous attacks occurred at some of the above locations such as between Yakir and Ravava where more than a dozen cars were hit.

Palestinian terrorists attacked buses with Molotovs at Hawara and at the Hossein Bypass.

MADA has not released information as to how many Israelis in the above attacks were wounded.

The daily Corona update . . .

Please note that these numbers encompass from 8 pm yesterday until 8 pm today (Tuesday):

562,619 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.

There are 10,204 newly confirmed cases.

1,174 are in critical condition—a decrease of 27

304 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an increase of 14

4,060 have died–an increase of 55

There are currently 81,250 active Corona cases in Israel.

Yesterday we wrote about “glimmers of hope.” Those glimmers have quickly dimmed today: more than 10,000 new cases; more than 50 people have died; more people on ventilators; and an increase in active cases.

Hospitals are now warning that the surge in new cases is bringing a disastrous collapse of the medical system ever closer. Crowded Corona wards coupled with the lack of medical personnel is reducing the quality of care for patients as available doctors have to choose which patients to prioritize. Surgeries are being canceled as are outpatient services in clinics.

The regulation farce . . .

Yossi Dagan being wheeled away after collapsing from his 7-day hunger strike in a tent beside PM Netanyahu’s office today. Dagan, the head of the Samaria Regional Council, has been leading the protests against the government’s failure to regulate fledgling Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. Dagan was rushed to Sha’are Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.

If you are a regular reader of OneIsrael, you know that it was only about a month ago that “regulation” of fledgling Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria seemed like a sure thing.

With PM Netanyahu supposedly signing on to the effort by the Israeli “right”, it looked like it would only be a matter of months before water, electricity, and security would be available to the 25,000 Israelis in these communities just like they are available to every other Israeli.

But we knew better. We knew that PM Netanyahu had no intention of following through on his commitment. We all knew he would make a promise and then abandon it.

This morning, at the Tuesday Cabinet meeting, Netanyahu began by demanding that six fledgling communities–just six–be regulated. Immediately, Benny Gantz objected. What was Netanyahu’s response? To drop the subject altogether and move to the next item on the agenda.

Just as quickly, Netanyahu has now thrown the proposed Atarot neighborhood in Jerusalem under the bus.

Again, it was just a month ago that Netanyahu stood at the Atarot site and promised that some 10,000 housing units would soon be built.

What horse manure.

Now, Netanyahu has buried the proposal in the District Planning and Building Committee and suggested that Atarot will have to wait until the end of Joe Biden’s term in office–possibly as long as 8 years.

The IDF’s Disastrous Rules of Engagement

“The conference of the 2nd reservists of ‘Torat Halacha’ was held last night (Sunday), with the participation of rabbis, senior officers and juniors and soldiers in the reserve, and bereaved families, and dealt with the problem of the opening fire regulations which IDF fighters [are confronted with] in various sectors.

The conference was held following the recent events in which IDF soldiers were observed being attacked without response on their part. The conference was attended by Maj. Gen. Uzi Dayan, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Adv. Adi Keidar of Honno and Lt. Col. Yehuda Libman.

Lt. Col. Yaron Buskila, a member of the Security Forces who served as a battalion commander and operations officer in Judea and Samaria, shared with participants an incident in which a military prosecutor arrested a division commander (Brigadier General) who used the word “kill” in his briefing and ordered him to cancel this terminology and use the term ‘neutralize’ instead.

According to Buskila, the incident illustrates a widespread phenomenon according to which IDF officers, including senior officials, fear the jurists within the army, and are forced to choose [between what is] “permissible,” in their view, instead of the operational and security need when facing terrorists.

During the conference, which the IDF Spokesman refused to attend, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu sharply criticized the nature of the IDF’s [non-response]attacks in Gaza, as well as the intention to grant vaccines to terrorists.

Adv. Adi Keidar, from the Honno organization, himself a commander of a fighter, emphasized the critical need for systemic backing for fighters. According to Kedar, every incident in which a terrorist is killed immediately leads to an MPIU [Military Police Investigations Unit] investigation, and thus fighters and officers find themselves bankrupt after years paying to defend themselves from MPIU investigations.

Retired Lt. Col. Rabbi Yehuda Libman, who was the battalion commander of the Samaria Brigade, spoke about the importance of the warrior’s consciousness in Judea and Samaria, emphasizing [the soldiers’ connection to the land of Israel] and understanding that the IDF protects our home and is not a foreign force [as the MPIU seems to think].

The conference, held in collaboration with Channel 7 concluded with Liran Baruch, a paratrooper and IDF invalid who was wounded in his service by a stone thrown by terrorists who declared that “we are the disabled IDF, we are the product of opening fire regulations.”

Your humble servant has often written about the extreme danger that the IDF rules of engagement pose to our troops. Swept up in a command culture of political correctness, soldiers constantly find themselves under attack from the IDF General Command and the MPIU.

It is an intolerable situation.
