The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Aged terrorist Ahmad Jibril, founder and secretary general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine died in Damascus yesterday at the age of 83. The perpetrator of murderers too many to mention, Jibril managed to live out his life under the relative security blanket of Bashir Assad. Why Israel never dispatched him is anyone’s guess.

Liberman begins his war on the ultra-orthodox . . .

It is no secret that new Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman has long held the haredi (ultra orthodox) population in utter disregard. We can even go so far as to say that he despises them.

There are many reasons for his animus not the least of which is that while the ultra-orthodox were in power under Netanyahu for the last decade, they used the Interior Ministry to thwart every effort that Liberman made to make life easy for his Israeli-Russian constituents, especially in the areas of conversions and marriages.

Now that Liberman is in control of the Finance Ministry, it is payback time.

Yesterday, Liberman (without any consultation with PM Bennett) dropped a bomb on haredi families. Beginning with the new school year, the government will no longer subsidize daycare for the numerous children of haredi men who are studying in a yeshiva.

According to Liberman, this move will force haredi men to enter the job market.

Needless to say, the haredi community is outraged considering it a full-blown attack on  Judaism by discouraging Torah study.

More than this, the decision leaves ultra-orthodox married women in the lurch because in many cases it is they who are the main breadwinners in the family. If they have no place to send their children, then they must stay at home.

Whether Liberman’s decision will stand is debatable, but there is one certainty: this is just the first of a number of measures Liberman plans to take to attack the ultra-orthodox.

Just how bad is overcrowding on Israeli roads? . . .

The Israeli obsession with new cars–more recently with SUVs–is well known.

It was announced yesterday that between January 1 and June 30 of this year, 189,870 new cars were sold in Israel–an increase of 54% over the same time period in 2020. It is estimated that at least another 150,000 will be sold before December 31.

The situation is already a disaster. Traffic jams are a daily fact of life here. For example, there are only two roads into and out of your humble servant’s city of Ashdod. Anyone trying to leave the city between 7 am-10 am or enter the city between 3 pm-7 pm will find him or herself stuck in at least a one hour traffic jam.

Numerous other locations are just as bad or worse. All roads around Rishon LeZion leading to Tel Aviv are a nightmare–as are streets within Tel Aviv itself.  The same can be said of Jerusalem.

And to think that there is now going to be 300,000 more cars.

The second viagra shipping medicine with same effects and side effects. Also one should look into the contents of the anti-impotency medications and should be instructed to adopt the use of these excellent pills of get viagra overnight . There are 7 different sexual super-foods, order cheap levitra each containing a different selection of natural ingredients and therefore each targeting different areas of sexual skill.
By the way, for many years the government has encouraged this mass buying of cars. In the first place, as we have pointed out many times on OneIsrael, the cost of buying a car here is astronomical because of the sales tax the buyer must pay. But in addition to the sales tax, the government reaps billions of shekels in fuel taxes and car licensing fees.

The Bank of Israel’s foreign money reserves . . .

Even as Corona has dominated life here, the Bank of Israel has continued to accumulate foreign reserves to the tune of $200 billion dollars as of July 1–the most ever.

These reserves account for 48.8% of the country’s GDP.

Today’s Blog

The New Government Grows Some Cajones

If you read our blog yesterday, you know that your humble servant scathingly lambasted our government for kowtowing to the Biden Administration’s demand not to destroy the home of the terrorist who murdered Yehuda Guetta two months ago.

In that blog, I said (among other things) that our new government was following a pattern of kowtowing to every Biden demand and in the process was not showing one ounce of dignity.

Today I retract those statements.

Someone in the government did show dignity last night and this morning by ordering the IDF to proceed with the demolition.

The terrorist’s house last night:

Perhaps you can see some of the military vehicles in front of the house.

Perhaps you can see some of the military vehicles in front of the house.

The terrorist’s home this morning as it was being blown to pieces:

The house bites the dust.

The house bites the dust.

Click here to see a video of the demolition of the terrorist’s home.

As you might imagine, the U.S. Embassy spokesman was quick to condemn the demolition. According to that obviously surprised and angered spokesman: “We believe it is critical for all parties to refrain from unilateral steps that exacerbate tensions and undercut efforts to advance a negotiated two-state solution. This certainly includes the punitive demolition of Palestinian homes.”

What unmitigated horse manure.

A unilateral step? Exacerbate tensions? 19-year-old Israeli student Yehuda Guetta was shot dead as he was standing at a bus stop by a Palestinian terrorist. Blowing up that terrorist’s home is certainly not a unilateral step and most assuredly does not exacerbate tensions.

One more thing: a “Palestinian home” was not punitively demolished. What was demolished was “the house of a Palestinian terrorist murderer”.

Bravo to our nascent government for growing some cajones, seeing the light, and rejecting the Biden Administration demand.
