IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi threatening Hamas that we will go to war if there are violations of order and terrorism on the Gaza border.
Your humble servant wonders who laughed hardest when they heard Kochavi’s bellicose braggadocio, Hamas or Islamic Jihad? There are violations of order and terror attacks every hour of every day, and Israel does nothing except bomb empty buildings and sand dunes–and only then after warning our enemies what we are about to do.

By the way, Israel’s military slide which began with former IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz continues under Kochavi. According to the well-respected annual publication of GlobalFirepower (GFP) published yesterday which rates each country’s potential “war-making capability” by land, sea, and air while incorporating such values as “manpower, equipment, natural resources, finances, and geography”, Israel now barely makes the top 20 militaries in the world.
In order: U.S., Russia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, France, U.K., Brazil, Pakistan, Turkey, Italy, Egypt, Iran, Germany, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Australia . . . and coming in at number 20 . . . Israel.
Yes, we are no longer the dominant power the Middle East–even ranked behind Turkey, Egypt, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. And this is not even to mention to two more virulently anti-Israel militaries in Pakistan and Indonesia.

The daily Corona update . . .
10,947 more Israelis were confirmed yesterday as having Covid-19. There are now 83,542 active cases in the country.
The positive test rate yesterday was 7.65%.
1,066,352 Israelis have tested positive since the pandemic began last year.
719 Israelis are in serious condition with another 172 in critical condition on ventilators.
7,043 Israelis have died of Covid-19; an increase of 53 since yesterday.
Vaccinations:
5,974,921 Israelis have received 1 dose.
5,482,062 Israelis have received 2 doses.
2,145,299 Israelis have received 3 doses.
53 dead Israelis in one day is shocking. We haven’t seen a number like that for months. Not to mention the number positively confirmed–almost 11,000. And yet, the clueless government continues opening everything up.
A fascinating fact: as of yesterday, 516 Israelis had died of Corona during the month of August. Only 4 of them were under the age of 50. All four of those had not been vaccinated.
About those concessions . . .
Ever since the first announcement of PM Bennett’s trip to Washington, your humble servant has been talking about the concessions that Israel would be told to make to the PLO. Just yesterday, I noted in regard to Benny Gantz’s trip to Ramallah two nights ago: “Biden undoubtedly ordered Bennett to get the “Palestinian process” moving again. In other words, Biden ordered Israel to make concessions to the PLO.”
This morning has brought clarity as to what those concessions are:

By the way, in an Orwellian turn of phrase, Israel is not calling all of the above “concessions”, they are being called “goodwill gestures” and “confidence building measures”–terminology reminiscent of all those concessions that Israel made to the PLO during the years when futile negotiations were taking place.

The Tragic Funeral of Staff Sgt. Bar-El Shmueli

As we reported yesterday, Bar-El tragically died yesterday afternoon following 9 days of a heroic fight for life following several brain surgeries after being shot in the face at point blank range by a Hamas terrorist on the Gaza Border Fence.
His death has become a watershed moment for criticism of the IDF General Command which had issued “No Shooting” orders to Bar-El’s unit, and which even now refuses to blame Hamas while acknowledging that the murderer is a member of Hamas.
Thousands of Israelis came from all over the country to Bar-El’s funeral last night at the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery.
Many speakers eulogized Bar-El, but has been the case ever since her son was shot, it was his mother Nitza who was notable.
After a moving tribute to her son and repeating that she cannot go on with her life, Nitza proceeded amidst sobbing to bitterly denounce those that she, and many of us other Israelis, holds responsible:
“My dear child, I will complete your war. The state, the Israeli government, the Israel Defense Forces, and the Border Police sent you to stand unarmed in front of Hamas terrorists.
My son is a sniper. You sent him with zero chance to shoot the terrorist. Sent him to the wall and told him ‘don’t shoot’.
The Chief of the General Staff brigade commander said: ‘We did not know he had hidden a gun in his pants’ . . . Israel Police, I want to hear one of you tell me when a terrorist attacked with baklava and sweets?
We have no Prime Minister Bennett. He is a disgrace to the State of Israel! Bennett, give up your place and resign.”

It is not too much to say that during the past week, Bar-El became the heart and soul of Israel with millions praying for his recovery.
As the funeral concluded, security guards had to surround Southern Command General Eliezer Toledano, Police Commissioner Ranz Kobi Shabtai and Knesset members Matan Kahana and Omar Bar Lev–all of whom were cursed and told ‘Go to Ramallah, you garbage.’
PM Naftali Bennett, Coalition Co-leader Yair Lapid, and Defense Minister Benny Gantz did not even have the courage to show up.
Along the Gaza border, rejoicing Hamas terrorists passed out baklava and other sweets when Bar-El’s death was announced and funeral was taking place.
If it was up to the government, this morning would have been business as usual with dozens of trucks carrying goods into Gaza, but at least the Kerem Shalom transit workers have the decency our government does not. They have declared a strike in honor of Bar-El and stopped all transport to the terrorists today.
