The Daily Corona Update

11,210 more Israelis were confirmed yesterday as having Covid-19. There are now 91,936 active cases in the country.

The positive test rate yesterday was 8.43%.

1,101,406 Israelis have tested positive since the pandemic began last year.

667 Israelis are in serious condition with another 143 in critical condition on ventilators.

7,122 Israelis have died–an increase of 32 since yesterday.

Vaccinations:

6,005,150 Israelis have received 1 dose.

5,501,924 Israelis have received 2 doses.

2,493,222 Israelis have received 3 doses.

The two takeaways from these numbers are the extraordinarily high positive test rate and the passing of the 6 million mark for having received 1 dose.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

On the Gaza border:

First the good news.

At least three terrorists were killed yesterday when Egyptian forces pumped poison gas into a tunnel leading from Gaza into Egyptian territory. Isn’t it funny how there is no international outcry about Egyptians poisoning “poor Palestinians”?

Now for the bizarre news.

For the last few days, we have been reporting how Israel has now opened wide the gates of the Kerem Shalom Crossing allowing all sorts of construction materials into Gaza for the first time since the war in 2014.

What is bizarre is how Israel has dropped any pretense of these materials not going to Hamas by allowing the entry without any United Nations’ oversight–the so-called GRM arrangement that was established as a condition for rebuilding Gaza in 2014. That arrangement called for the materials to be trucked into Gaza, taken to a holding site, filmed by U.N. inspectors, and then distributed to Gazans holding a special permit.

No longer.

Our current idiotic government could care less where the construction materials are headed.

It turns out that all of the lunacy at the Kerem Shalom Crossing is part and parcel of the crackpot plan that the politicians in Jerusalem and the IDF General Command devised years go to drive a wedge between the “Gaza civilian population” and Hamas.

The cretinous idea is for the Gaza people to love us and hate Hamas. History shows it has been a miserable failure–but that doesn’t deter our moronic leaders from continuing to pursue it.

Now for the unsurprising news.

So what was the Hamas response yesterday to all of this generosity from Israel?

Violent chaos on the Gaza border last night with hundreds of explosives hurled at our soldiers guarding the fence.

Let me repeat that.

Hundreds of grenades, Molotovs, and IEDs.

Now sensitive about the “Don’t Shoot” order that cost Staff Sgt. Shmueli his life, IDF commanders permitted limited shooting at the terrorists. 5 of them were wounded in the legs or feet.

Meanwhile in Judea and Samaria . . .

Taking a cue from their fellow terrorists in Gaza, there were massive fires set around Beta in Samaria last night. Click here to see explosives set off a raging fire at Beta in Samaria last night.

Luban a-Sharqiya, the Gush Etzion-Hevron Road, Road 443, the area near Hizma, Al-Aruv, just outside of Ramallah: these were half a dozen out of more than 20 places where Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis with Molotovs and “rocks” yesterday.

Elsewhere around the neighborhood . . .

*According to reliable reports, the U.S. is continuing its drive to get out of the Middle East and environs.

Following the Afghanistan fiasco, President Biden has ordered the military to begin “evacuating” three of its main military bases in Syria.

*Last night, central Israel was rocked by several explosions. Apparently Syrian anti-aircraft missile batteries fired at Israeli aircraft approaching Damascus. At least one missile missed, flew over Israel, and exploded in the Mediterranean.

The good news that Israelis really care about today . . .

It was announced yesterday that Israeli drivers under the age of 70 will no longer be forced to renew their driver’s licenses every ten years. Instead, anyone under the age of 70 will receive a driver’s license good until they are 70.

Once they are 70, they must renew every 5 years; when they are 80, every 2 years.

Aside from removing a bureaucratic headache for motorists, it will also save them at least $500.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Continuing Fallout From Staff Sgt. Bar-el Shmueli’s Murder

We begin with these ludicrous comments from IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi at a naval ceremony last night in which he attempted to counter the fact that Shmueli’s unit was given “Don’t Shoot” orders:

“Soldiers and commanders are equipped with all the tools, and instructions to open fire are clear, Every soldier facing a threat and life-threatening, in routine or combat, may, should and must act sharply, strive for contact and thwart the threat. IDF commanders do not send soldiers into battle – they go out with them and lead them! All claims to the contrary are devoid of any bases are are nothing but complete lies.”

Yes, IDF soldiers are equipped with all the tools, and yes the instructions about opening fire are clear. But as we heard from Defense Minister Gantz yesterday, those clear instructions are:

1. Any shooting by a soldier not following the orders below will be investigated and turned over to the Military Prosecutor’s Office.

2. Every terrorist is to be treated as a “suspect.”

3. In the midst of an attack, the “suspect” must somehow be evaluated as to his or her “means” and “intent.”

4. If the soldier determines that there is sufficient means and intent to shoot the “suspect”, then that soldier must obtain permission to shoot from someone higher up the chain of command (a commander or legal officer).

So no, every soldier facing a life threatening situation cannot act sharply, cannot strive for contact without permission, and cannot therefore thwart the threat in real time. They are for all intents and purposes ordered not to shoot.

As for IDF commanders leading their soldiers into combat, all we can say is that these are commanders who have been thoroughly indoctrinated in humanitarian mumbo jumbo which prioritizes the life of the enemy higher than the life of oneself and one’s fellow soldiers.

And where, by the way, was the commander when Bar-el was shot point blank in the face?

So no, the statements from all of the soldiers in Shmueli’s unit have an absolute basis in fact, and the only lies are those coming from the IDF General Staff which is trying desperately to cover its hind end.

Kochavi concluded his remarks by saying that he will embrace Bar-el’s family and strengthen it by presenting them with the army’s report of the incident.

What malarkey!

Embrace his family and strengthen it? Where was Kochavi when Bar-el lay in the hospital fighting for his life? Where was Kochavi when Bar-el was buried?

Nowhere to be seen.

We continue today with another strange action from PM Bennett–the same Bennett who called the Shmueli family a day and a half after their son was shot and who did not know his name, did not know his condition, and did not even know what hospital he was in.

Now that the family is sitting shiva, Bennett sent a special delivery letter of condolence to Bar-el’s mother Nitza last night.

She immediately tore it to pieces and exclaimed: “This is what he sends me instead of coming here? Shame!”

The same shame that Bennett should have felt about not showing up for Bar-el’s funeral.

We continue on with this announcement:

The walk.

The walk.

The announcement is for a walk all the way from just outside of Ashdod to the Gaza border on Sunday to protest the way that the IDF and Border Police have hung our soldiers out to dry by not letting them fire on terrorists. The walk is being organized by the mothers, wives, and girlfriends of those soldiers serving on the border.

Your humble servant plans to be there.

On that note, we here at OneIsrael wish you:

Shabbat Shalom!
