Quote of the Day

“It is impossible to imprison prisoners and not give them care, education and rehabilitation; I will stand by that.”

Katie Perry, Israel Commissioner of the Prisons Service, in comments at a Knesset Safety Committee meeting

These brainless, liberal-speak words were spoken of course a little more than a week after Perry’s minions oversaw one of the largest prisoner escapes in Israel history (2 prisoners are still at large). In a previous blog, we have detailed what “care” means to people like Perry (satellite TV, cellphones, personal chefs, etc), and what education means (cookie-making classes and university degrees).

Another revelation about the escape came yesterday. It turns out that one of the escapees was so fat that he couldn’t get through the hole on the outside of the prison fence under the watchtower. For 20 minutes, his fellow escapees struggled to get him out with dogs barking all around and with all of their movements being filmed on the prison video system. However, one guard in the watchtower was asleep, and the other was watching television.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In Jerusalem:

The third stabbing in Jerusalem in two days: a Palestinian terrorist walked into a shop on Jaffa Street beside the Central Bus Station, pulled out a knife, and began stabbing two men in the back. During the ensuing fight between the two and the terrorist, a policewoman stationed on the street saw what was going on and shot the terrorist in the chest. As of this morning, the two men are in moderate condition and the terrorist is in critical condition.

In Judea and Samaria:

There have been too many Palestinian attacks in Judea and Samaria to list; here are a few:

A fire in the Gush Etzion hills yesterday.

Palestinian terrorists attacked a bus between Emanuel and Nahal Kana.

Palestinian terrorists threw “rocks” at female Jewish worshipers at Rachel’s Tomb outside of Bethlehem.

The positive test rate yesterday was 5.22%.

PM Bennett meets with President Sisi . . .

Bennett wants to be seen as a person of prestige; Sisi wants to be seen as something other than the dictator he is.

Bennett wants to be seen as a person of prestige; Sisi wants to be seen as something other than the dictator he is.

In what Bennett later described as an “important meeting”, Bennett met with Sisi at Sharm el-Sheikh.

Ostensibly the meeting was to talk about Iran, the emerging “prisoner” swap between Hamas and Israel, and the rehabilitation of terrorists in Gaza.

In reality, this was another photo op for Bennett who is desperate to cast himself as a legitimate leader, while Sisi is anxious for the Biden Administration to see himself as a peacemaker.

New statistics (from 2019) about Israelis leaving Israel . . .

From the Central Bureau of Statistics:

–in 2019 7,500 Israelis left Israel to live elsewhere: 60% of these emigrants were born outside of Israel, and 75% of this 60% had come to Israel from Europe

–it is currently believed that 605,000 Israelis are now living abroad

–between 1948 until the end of 2019, 746,000 Israelis left Israel and never returned

What conclusions can we draw from these numbers?

A considerable number of people who make aliya from Europe to Israel turn around and go back or go to some other location.

Israel is losing (and has lost) a significant part of its population–even more so than the numbers indicate because the numbers do not include children born to couples or singles who left.

TODAY’S BLOG:

“The Law of Sderot is the Law of Tel Aviv.”

So spoke PM Bennett the other day when he went gallivanting to Sderot.

It was an extraordinarily lame attempt by Bennett to express solidarity with the residents of the city who have long known that they and their fellow residents of the Gaza Border communities are little more than missile fodder in the eyes of the Israeli government.

Especially in comparison with the residents of Tel Aviv.

All Sderot residents have to look at is what has happened every time there is a missile fired on southern Israel. During the past 13 years of Hamas missile strikes, we have seen the same pattern over and over again:

–if Hamas terrorists shoot 1 missile at southern Israel, nothing happens unless the missile happens to kill an Israeli. Who cares if ten or twenty thousand people have to run to their bomb shelters at all hours of the day and night? Certainly not the IDF or the government.

–if Hamas terrorists shoot between 2-12 missiles, then the IDF contacts Hamas, sends it a warning, and then bombs an empty building or sand dune

–if Hamas terrorists shoot more than a dozen missiles, then the IDF contacts Hamas, sends it a warning, and then bombs several empty buildings or sand dunes

and on and on . . . but . . .

–if Hamas terrorists fire even one missile or more at Tel Aviv, then the IDF acts like the sky is falling.

Heaven forbid that residents of Tel Aviv be forced to run to their bomb shelters or stairwells. Suddenly, the IDF awakens, springs into action, and a major confrontation looms.

Of course, Hamas knows this. Why do you think that Tel Aviv is so rarely targeted? Because Hamas knows that it can shoot at Sderot and other southern towns with virtual impunity.

The law in Sderot is most assuredly not the law in Tel Aviv.
