The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona update . . .

A new Corona strain, AY4.2 has arrived in Israel via an 11-year-old boy whose family went to Moldova on vacation. This strain is so virulent that there is even discussion about closing down Ben Gurion Airport again.

1,135 more Israelis were confirmed “yesterday” as having Covid-19. There are now 16,023 active cases in the country.

1,319,902 Israelis have contracted Corona since the pandemic began.

The positive test rate yesterday was 1.28%.

343 Israelis are in serious condition with another 155 in critical condition on ventilators.

8,029 Israelis have died–8 since yesterday.

Vaccinations:

6,211,541 Israelis have received one dose.

5,706,240 Israelis have received two doses.

3,871,845 Israelis have received three doses.

New taxes are on the way . . .

On November 1, a new tax will be levied on all plastic items.

This tax is especially expected to hit the orthodox community hard because of its reliance on plastic plates, utensils, and cups.

Of course that was the intent of the tax which was proposed by Finance Minister Lieberman who never misses an opportunity to throw the orthodox under the bus.

In addition, beginning on January 1, a new tax will be imposed on “sugary drinks”.

The amount will be between .70 agorot and 1 shekel per liter depending on the amount of sugar in the drink.

Soft drink producers are already predicting that the tax will ultimately result in employee layoffs.

Two Letters That Say It All

Letter 1:

“I have been fighting inside and out for months, months that I have devoted a lot of thought to. I have decided that I can no longer be a member or take any part in the Yamina Party.

The recent statements of members of Yamina on Rabin Memorial Day, which adopted the rhetoric of Zehava Gal-On [former head of Israel’s uber-left Meretz Party] and her partners, are the straw that broke the camel’s back.

This is after a series of fundamental promises that were all thrown in the trash, one after the other, and replaced by a new compass, whose whole purpose is to stay in power as the Prime Minister – even at the cost of selling Zionism, the national camp, love of country and love of Torah.”

I am ideologically incapable of continuing to support a Party with such values.”

Dudi Cohen, in his resignation letter as the Director of the Yamina Party–the home Party of PM Naftali Bennett

Cohen’s words speak for themselves.

Yamina has become a Party that sounds like Meretz.

PM Bennett has turned the Party away from its values of Zionism, nationalism, country, and Torah.

There’s nothing more to add.

Letter 2:

“It’s our last night in Sderot, That’s not how we thought we would leave the house. We had common dreams. We were looking for a house with a garden together,

Remember you asked me if we would also take your toys to the new house, and I promised that whatever you wanted to take would come with us.

Today, Dudka, everything comes with us, from the smallest thing you had in kindergarten to your biggest game. These are the last things left of you–but only physically, spiritually you will live within us forever.

It’s hard to leave home, we planned to move inside Sderot, and now because of what happened, we’re leaving the city we love.

We no longer feel safe here and the security routine of life here has become too difficult  for us.”

The sad Facebook post yesterday of Shani Avigail, the mother of 6-year-old Ido Avigail who was murdered in May by a Hamas missile that slammed into the family’s home in Sderot. Shani was also seriously wounded.

The above post is a letter to Ido, her beloved Dudka, upon leaving Sderot.

Shani’s letter says it all.

Sderot is not a safe place to live.

Hamas fires missiles and even machine gun bullets into the city at will, and our government’s only reactions are to send more goods to Gaza, allow more Hamas operatives into Israel, and facilitate the payment of Qatari blackmail money.

There is nothing more to add.

We leave you today with a photo of Ido:

Ido Avigail. May his memory always be for a blessing.
