Happy Chanukah!
Chanukah begins tonight at sundown at which time we will light the first candle and remember how the Maccabees fought for and won their freedom from King Antiochus and his Hellenistic Greeks.
We wish for you, your family, and friends a wonderful time full of light, latkes, and souvganiot!
The News on the Israeli Street
The weekly Corona update . . .
All of the news in Israel this morning is about the Omicron variant from South Africa. Israel has already closed its borders to any arrivals from Africa (except ludicrously from Morocco where “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz currently is, and Egypt where Energy Minister Karin Elharah is currently holding meetings).
This closure is too little too late once again. There are numerous cases of Omicron popping up all over the country this morning. Nevertheless, our panicky government is seriously considering closing down Ben Gurion Airport to all foreign visitors and enforcing new restrictions on Chanukah gatherings.
The numbers this morning (compared to last week):
The number of people confirmed with Corona over the weekend: 537 (an increase of 40 from last week weekend).
The total number of active cases: 7,354 (an increase of 2,121 from last week)
The positive test rate: 0.68% (up from 0.65% last week)
In serious condition: 125 (a drop of 8 from last week)
In critical condition: 72 (a drop of 10 from last week)
The number who have died of Corona since the beginning of the pandemic: 8,182 (an increase of 28 from last week)
Will we backdown again?
Over the course of the last few months, we have repeatedly seen Israel in retreat whether it is in the form of kowtowing to the Biden Administration and European Union or trembling in the face of Hamas threats.
In regard to the former, we had another instance yesterday in which Israel reversed course with a business deal with a Chinese telecom company because of pressure from the Biden Administration. This follows the sickening reversal of building a new Jerusalem neighborhood in Atarot because of U.S. pressure.
In regard to the latter, Israel has surrendered to Hamas threats concerning Sheikh Jarrah, the Temple Mount, and in numerous other areas. No matter what terror Hamas perpetrates, Israel continues to slobber concessions all over the terror group.
Yesterday, Hamas threatened Israel is all directions.
First, senior Hamas spokesperson Ismail Rachuan said that Israel will “pay the consequences” if President Herzog follows through with his plan to light the first candle of Chanukah this evening at our Cave of the Patriarchs in Hevron.
Then to top it off, Rachuan called for massive rallies to oppose Israel’s placing a chanukkiah in the Western Wall plaza because he said that the plaza actually is an Islamic property belonging to the Al-Aksa Mosque.
Threat after threat. Tomorrow, Hamas will threaten us if we eat souvganiot on the holiday.
The question is: will Herzog back down and will our pathetic government?
TODAY’S BLOG:
“Scared Soldiers, Frightened Army, Shameful Government”
As we wrote above, Israel seems to be in retreat in all directions.
Nowhere has this been more graphically evident than with the IDF.
Beset with officers who have embraced the teachings of endless “humanitarian” seminars and courses, the IDF has effectively neutered our soldiers.
Neutered them to the point that they are afraid to open fire for fear of being hauled before a military prosecutor and court-martialed.
Whether it is in Gaza or Judea and Samaria, the IDF insists on placing our soldiers in harm’s way without the ability to properly defend themselves. As we have reported here at OneIsrael, our soldiers are attacked every day with Molotovs, “rocks”, and even gunfire–all the while being expected to passively “just take it.”
Yesterday, a social media post of what happened to a group of soldiers in Hevron went viral:
Click here to see how ridiculous the situation has become.
This “having to cower behind plastic shields in order to not be wounded” is a microcosm of what has happened to the IDF.
The first anonymous comment on social media to this post was the most accurate:
“Scared Soldiers, Frightened Army, Shameful Government!”
But it should not be misread.
Our soldiers are scared of being prosecuted by our own military “justice” system.
Our army is frightened because it has succumbed to the utter passivity of humanitarianism.
Our government is shameful because it countenances what has gone on with our soldiers and army.
The Maccabees would have never tolerated such a situation.
