The Photos of the Morning
But then the sun came out, and this photo was taken a few hours ago by a photographer from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority:
The Israeli Sweet of the Day
The Disingenuous Quote of the Day
“In despair, the settlers suffer from violence and terrorism. They are the protective wall of us all.”
PM Bennett answering the outrageous comments of his own Minister of Internal Security Omer Bar-Lev yesterday (see Today’s blog below).
Bennett is exactly correct yet he is disingenuous in the extreme.
It was Bennett who approved the appointment of Bar-Lev, and Bennett who does nothing to materially support Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria by freezing construction and all funds for building infrastructure such as providing water and electricity.
The News on the Israeli Street
On the Corona front . . .
As the number of Israelis infected with Omicron incrementally increases (now up to 89), Israel’s health officials announced yesterday that as of tomorrow all “closed commercial spaces of more than 10,000 square meters” (aka “shopping malls”) will be required to check all shoppers at the entrance to make sure they have the Green Pass (proof they have received three doses).
In the neighborhood . . .
From the UAE:
The UAE announced yesterday that it is suspending talks with the Biden Administration concerning the 23 billion dollar purchase of F-35s and drones. According to the Emirates spokesman, the reasons are “technical requirements, sovereign operational restrictions, and cost/benefit analysis.” To put it a different way, the Biden Administration is refusing to allow the Emirates to take full control over what they would be buying.
Not only that, but recent reports of a rapprochement between the UAE and Iran have obviously played a role.
Does this spell the beginning of trouble for the Abraham Accords? After all, it was the purchase of the F35s that led the U.A.E. to normalize relations with Israel.
Speaking of Iran:
Note the map. The red dots are missile targets; every major and even minor city and town in Israel is targeted. Interestingly, Gaza and all of the PLO cities in Judea and Samaria are also targeted.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Biden Administration’s Obsession With The “Settlers”
That the Biden Administration would fully embrace the Palestinian narrative was a foregone conclusion. After all, Joe Biden is beholden to the progressive elements of his Democrat Party who would like to see Israel thrown under the bus.
However, apparently no one in our leftist Coalition government was prepared to see that “full embrace” turn into an obsession. As was reported in the Jerusalem Post this morning, a senior official commented: “The Americans bring up settler violence all the time, obsessively.”
For example, the Post article also reports that when “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz was in Washington several days ago, Secretary of State Blinken demanded that the conversation focus as much on the “settlers” as on Iran.
Unfortunately, the Biden obsession with the settlements is becoming the springboard for our Israeli government.
Yesterday, we had Internal Security Minister Bar-Lev making this outrageous statement:
“I understand that it is really difficult for some of you to put a mirror in front of your face that extremist settler violence is crossing the whole world and foreign governments are interested in the issue.
Extremist settlers? When Bar-Lev uses the phrase “extremist settlers”, he is talking about the small number of “hilltop youth” (which number around 2500).
Extremist setttler violence? When Bar-Lev uses this phrase, he is referring to the fact that the young Jews:
*resist having their small communities destroyed by the Israeli Civil Administration
*fight defensively against Palestinians who are attacking their communities
*retaliate when Palestinian terrorists murder Israelis.

Here at OneIsrael we have often admired their efforts.
But note Bar-Lev’s gross, obsessive, exaggeration: “extremist settler violence is crossing the whole world.” For this government, the Biden Administration is the whole world.
To further kowtow to the Biden Administration, it was revealed yesterday that Bar-Lev and “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz are going to convert 1500 IDF soldiers into police in order to go after “Jewish extremists” in Judea and Samaria.
What was PM Bennett’s response? Nothing. Zero. Zilch.
What about the real violence afflicting Israel? Why are no soldiers being converted into police to deal with the massive problems with the Bedouins in the South or Israeli-Arab cities that have become crime ridden in the extreme? There have been more than 50 murders so far this year in these cities compared to 0 murders of Palestinians in Area C where the “Hilltop Youth” live.
And why don’t Bar-Lev and Gantz do something to stop the incessant Palestinian violence against Israelis that we chronicle everyday here–such as this sampling from yesterday afternoon:
At 12:04 pm: Palestinian terrorists attacked a bus near Hizma
At 12:38 pm: Palestinian terrorists attacked an IDF patrol with Molotovs
At 1:23 pm: Palestinian terrorists assaulted a motorist at Tapuach
At 4:23 pm: Palestinian terrorists threw Molotovs at Israelis near the Otzrin Junction
At 4:50 pm: Palestinian terrorists attacked a bus at the Halhul Bridge
At 6:46 pm: A Palestinian terrorist ran over a policeman near Tzufim
At 7:25 pm: Palestinian terrorists threw 2 Molotovs at Beit El
At 7:32 pm: Palestinian terrorists assaulted a car on Road 60 wounding 3
At 7:34 pm: Palestinian terrorists attacked an IDF vehicle
At 8:59 pm: Palestinian terrorists struck with Molotovs again at Beit El
And what did Omer Bar-Lev say about any of these attacks?
Nothing. Not a word.
Why not? Because the Israeli left takes its marching orders from Washington, and no one at the White House cares anything about terror perpetrated against Israelis.
An addendum:
We include this article from Arutz Sheva today to further illustrate the point we have tried to make in Today’s Blog (emphasis mine):
Another incident of stone-throwing from the village of Luban near the community of Eli took place yesterday, this time with casualties.
The father of the family, which suffered light injuries as a result of the stone-throwing, Yaniv Simantov, a resident of Givat Haroeh, commented on the events. “Such a possibility is always taken into account, but it is always surprising,” he said.
The trip from Ariel to their home was made by the full family, the parents and children, a son aged four and a half and a daughter aged three, when they were attacked by an ambush at a point where stones had been thrown in multiple attacks in recent weeks.
On the condition of his family, he said that now “physically we are fine. My wife came out of the hospital, they took out the shards of glass from the eyes and the children, thank G-d, are fine. The injuries are mainly from glass all around the body and as a result of the vehicle stopping.”
He says of the incident itself: “We saw nothing. It is a very dark area with no lighting. A routine and fun ride with the kids, and suddenly out of nowhere a huge explosion in the car. A stone hit the windshield and another stone in the back door, a few centimeters away from breaking the window and harming the girl who sat in the back.”
In the seconds after the injury, “we were trying to digest what was happening to us and understand the situation. I immediately realized that it was a stone and we continued towards a safe place. We reached the entrance to Eli and on the way reported the incident to the hotline. In those moments in the car itself “the children were shaking and crying. At first our daughter was quiet and we thought something had happened to her, we turned around and saw that she was in shock. It took us a while to understand what happened.”
At the entrance to Eli, the family received first aid, and security arrived to investigate the incident. From there, the family was transferred for further treatment at the hospital.
As mentioned, the point where the car of the Simantov family was attacked is one where every morning Arab children throw stones at Jewish vehicles on their way to one of the three schools in the area. Simantov said that in the morning there is military security at the site, but that it appears stone-throwers also choose other hours to attack.
When asked about the Minister of Internal Security’s remarks about alleged “settler violence, he responded, “This is a very unfortunate statement, completely ignoring what happens every day and focusing on something very negligible and small. It hurts that a man of his status speaks like this.”
