The Israeli Food of the Day
Sliced, fried eggplant with sweet red peppers and whatever else you might want to add such as mushrooms and onions. Your humble servant never liked eggplant until he discovered the eggplant salads here.
The Photo of the Day
The Egregious Graphic of the Day
Published yesterday, this is the new logo of Fatah, the terrorist “military” arm of the terrorist PLO–headed by arch-terrorist Mahmoud Abbas. It was published yesterday on the 57th anniversary of the PLO’s first terror attack against Israel in 1964.
Take a close look at the elements of the logo from left to right: the PLO flag which includes (in red) all of Israel (with martyrs ascending to heaven above it); the stabbing knife being held by the 7; the Kipat HaSela (Dome of the Rock) with the AK-47 machine gun; the keffiyeh in the background.
The Incredibly Absurd Quote of the Day
“I am in dialogue with Defense Minister Gantz who I think is doing a very important job in calming Judea and Samaria, and I hereby call on everyone to cool down and calm down.”
PM Bennett speaking at a Cabinet meeting yesterday
Calming Judea and Samaria? What planet is Bennett living on–by all accounts (see below), a new intifada is underway with shootings, stabbings, Molotovs, and “rocks” occurring in every direction.
Nevertheless, it’s good to know (pardon the sarcasm) that our prime minister “dialogues” with our defense minister.
The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
Speaking of shootings, stabbings, Molotovs, and “rocks”, there were more than 25 attacks yesterday–herewith a sampling:
Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli buses in Gush Etzion and at Hizma (driver wounded):
Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli motorists with Molotovs and “rocks” near Mevo Dotan, on Road 457, Ta’anim, Shukba, on the Gush Etzion-Hevron Road, at Luban a-Sharqiya, Tekoa, and at other places.
Palestinian terrorists set fires in front of the security fence at Beit El and at Sha’ar Ohad.
Palestinian terrorists armed with knives attempted to breach the security fence on the border with northern Gaza.
If you can believe this . . .
Our so-called “Defense Minister Benny Gantz actually hosted arch-PLO terrorist Mahmoud Abbas yesterday.
At Gantz’s home in Rosh Ha’Ayin. It was the first time Abbas has been in Israel in years.
Why did he invite him?
To offer him more concessions:
–a 100,000,000 million shekel advance on tax monies Israel will collect for the PLO.
–“humanitarian” status approval for entry into Israel for 6000 Palestinians in Areas A and B, and 3,500 in Gaza.
–600 more entry permits for Palestinian businessmen, and 500 more for businessmen to enter with their cars.
–dozens of VIP permits for senior PLO terrorists.

The daily Corona update . . .
The number of active cases (16,246) and newly confirmed cases (2,972) continue to rise dramatically; however, the number of seriously and critically ill patients has not risen at all. 1 Corona patient died yesterday, but not from the Omicron variant.
The U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, and South Africa–all of which have large Jewish communities–remain on the list of “red” countries that Israelis are not allowed to fly to unless they have a special exemption.
Good news and bad news on the economic front . . .
The good:
The current forecast issued yesterday by the Ministry of Economy and Industry predicts an all-time record in Israeli exports in 2021, approaching $135 billion dollars – an increase of 18.5% compared to the $114 billion dollars worth of exports from Israel in 2020.
What is remarkable is that these record exports have occurred in a Corona year. How it happened is simply that for the first time in history, Israel’s “service” exports exceeded its “goods” exports. Most of the service exports are in the high-tech industry.
The bad:
It seems that Israel is hit with food shortages on a continual basis. Now, following the discovery of avian flu in chickens here and the subsequent elimination of 600,000 chickens, there is an egg shortage. Almost certainly this will be followed in close order by a poultry shortage in supermarkets.
If this isn’t bad enough, Israel’s favorite food company, Osem, announced an average of 5% price increases on its cereals, snacks, coffee, pastas, flakes, noodles, couscous and sauces yesterday.
In the coming weeks, the price of dairy products is expected to rise by almost 9%.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The IDF In Decline
You have already read above how Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah organization glorified its terror activities in its new logo, and you saw how PM Bennett extolled Defense Minister Benny Gantz’s “calming down” the situation with the Palestinians, and you read about the more than 2 dozen Palestinian terror attacks yesterday.
To top all of this off, we have two more pieces of information for your consideration today.
To begin with the IDF issued its second report in as many days, this time glorifying its activities in the last year and expressing optimism for the coming year.
Here are two pieces from that report (pardon the blurriness–it’s a screen shot):
What you should notice is the steady increase in “rock” terror between 2018 (1,881 attacks) to this year (5,532 attacks), as well as the steady increases in arson attacks, gunfire attacks, and stabbing attacks—with no mention at all of Molotov attacks.
But notice the dramatic decrease in weapons seized and terrorist weapon workshops closed down.
Are these numbers something for the IDF to crow about?
And this:
Terror has increased dramatically but the IDF detaining of terrorists has not.
How about this section of the report about Gaza:
Talk about misleading. The IDF wants to praise itself for limiting the number of missile launches against Israel after each of the wars.
However, there is no mention of the IDF’s complete inability to stop missiles being fired at Israeli civilians during the wars (nearly 6,000 in May’s Guardian of the Walls alone) or how many soldiers and civilians were killed or wounded.
All in all, the information given out by the IDF is hardly what you would call laudatory or optimistic. It describes an IDF in decline.
