Breaking News

An IDF “bat” helicopter with a crew of three on a training mission crashed 200 meters off the coast of Haifa last night. Both IAF pilots, Lt. Col. Erez Shahanei and Major Chen Fogel  were killed; the third person on board, a naval officer, is in “moderate” condition at Rambam Hospital suffering from hypothermia and trauma after being rescued by scuba divers who reached the scene.

The “bat” helicopter is a Eurocopter AS565 Panther used for missions at sea:

The Animal Photo of the Day

A herd of  . . . this morning in the foggy Yotvata Nature Reserve near Eilat. Do you have any idea what animals these are?

If you said Arabian oryx, you would be correct! This herd is part of a revolutionary project that is returning animals once extinct in Israel back to the country.

The Disgusting Photo of the Day

Why are we Israelis paying our taxpayer money to keep this terrorist alive? What does it tell you that our Arab-Israeli “lawmakers” are supporting Hamas?

FM Lapid’s Absurd Excuse For Embracing the PLO and Hamas

“Without a political process vis-à-vis the Palestinians, there is a growing danger that Israel will be defined as an apartheid state.”

Former boxer and broadcaster and now Foreign Minister Yair Lapid speaking yesterday.

Your humble servant doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Where in the world has Lapid been for the last last four decades as Israel has been falsely lambasted around the globe for being an “apartheid state”?

The only “growing danger” is that one day the lame brain Lapid will become our prime minister.

But wait . . . Lapid had more . . .

“We are now in an excavation war to achieve small achievements in improving the nuclear agreement that is expected to be signed.”

Say what? Who knows what Lapid means by “excavation war”, but the bottom line is that our current Concession Government is resigned to the fact that the P5+1 will soon sign a new nuclear appeasement deal with Iran.  According to Lapid, Israel is now reduced to achieving small achievements.

History will record that the pea-brained Bennett, Lapid, and Gantz never thought any way but small.

The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona update . . .

10,664 new cases of Corona were confirmed yesterday bringing to 45,580 the number of active cases in the country: both numbers continue to steeply rise.

108 are in serious condition; 35 are in critical condition on ventilators–only about 250 Israelis are hospitalized with the virus.

8,247 have died: an increase of 3 since yesterday.

The positive test rate yesterday was 4.83%.

62.88% of Israelis have received two doses of vaccine. 45.26% have received 3 doses.

In a rather startling admission last night, a Health Ministry official stated that the government has “given up all hope” of stopping the spread of Omicron, and that, in fact, the best thing for the country would be for everyone to get it.

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Once again, the supposed “quiet” that the IDF has been touting along the Gaza border was shattered yesterday by machine gun fire from terrorists directed toward a military jeep. Not surprisingly, the IDF patrol did not return fire.

Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis with “rocks” and Molotovs between Eviatar and Tapuach, on Road 465 near Neve Tzuf, on Road 443 east of the Maccabim checkpoint, on Road 55 near Ma’ale Shomron, at Hizma,  and at numerous other locations.

Regular readers of OneIsrael undoubtedly recognize that “Hizma” is one of the worst attack locations: no day goes by without attacks on motorists and buses. In the latter regard, the IDF has decided to “reinforce” the buses with IDF reservists though one wonders how reservists on buses will be able to stanch the attacks coming from outside the buses.

The siege of Chomesh continues . . .

As we have reported previously, the yeshiva at Chomesh still stands despite all attempts of the government to get rid of the 2 families still living there.

Following the cutoff of water last week comes news this morning that now the Civil Administration has turned off electricity to what is left of the community and arrived this morning to destroy the tents that were housing the families.

It is beyond understanding how the government is undertaking these steps against this tiny band of Jews and refuses to take any steps against illegal Palestinian settlements.

3 Israeli Medical Innovations That Could Save Your Life

It is easy here in Israel to get so wrapped up in Corona, government failures, Palestinian terror, and IDF General Command shortcomings to forget the sheer brilliance of Israeli science. It is present in numerous fields, but today we are just looking at three innovations from startups in the medical field that eliminate the need for invasive surgery.

They well change and even save your life.

What is SAW?

SAW, the future is now.

SAW, the future is now.

Single actuator wave-like robot.

It is a self-propelled “pill” swallowed by a patient that enables a doctor to control the capsule’s movements. Specifically designed for use in the small intestine, it may be used in other parts of the body as well. It is the brainchild of Prof. David Zarrouk, the head of Ben Gurion University’s Bio-Inspired and Medical Robotics Laboratory.

What is Hominis?

Hominis looks a little scary, but its ability to squeeze into tight places eliminates the need for invasive surgery.

Hominis looks a little scary, but its ability to squeeze into tight places eliminates the need for surgery.

It is produced by the Memic company. According to their website:

“The Hominis system is the first and only surgical robotic platform that features miniature humanoid-shaped robotic arms that provide human level dexterity, multi-planar flexibility and 360 degrees of articulation. The biomimetic instruments are designed to replicate the motions and capabilities of a surgeon’s arms, with shoulder, elbow and wrist joints. Multiple instruments can be introduced to the body through a single portal and the 360-degree articulation offers obstacle avoidance as well as optimal access and working angles.”

What is TAVR?

Created by Medtronic, TAVR stands for “transcatheter aortic valve replacement“–used in patients with severe aortic stenosis in the heart. Made of nickel and titanium, it shapes itself to the person’s anatomy.

No more open-heart surgery, no more months long recovery: implanting TAVR takes about half an hour–and two days later, the patient can return to normal.

On a personal note, your humble servant’s father-in-law underwent one of the first TAVR implantations three years ago when he was 89 years old. Before the procedure, he was told that without TAVR he would probably not live more than two months. Now at 92, the TAVR device is performing wonderfully.

And so it goes today in Israel!
