All of Israel is on high alert today following the elimination of a heavily armed Palestinian terror cell near Jenin last night.
In a joint operation of the anti-terrorism unit of the Border Police, the Israel Police, and the IDF, three terrorists were killed at the Araba Junction between Jenin and Tulkarm. They were on their way to carry out a major terror attack in Israel and were apparently members of Islamic Jihad or the Tanzim.
In the firefight, 4 of our men were wounded: 2 lightly, 1 moderately, and 1 critically. The critically wounded is a Lt. Col. who is now anesthetized on a respirator at Rambam Hospital in Haifa. You should pray for his recovery.
Islamic Jihad has sworn revenge, and we now have the unusual scene of IDF soldiers deployed to various Israeli cities to supplement police forces.
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
