The News on the Israeli Street
The PLO and Hamas are locked in a fierce struggle to gain primacy over the Al-Aksa Mosque on the Temple Mount. The questions for them are simply who can foment the most violence and who can better provoke Israeli soldiers and police.
This struggle has been abetted by our government with its loosening of restrictions on Palestinians coming to the Mount. Today has seen violent riots with dozens of rioters detained by police. According to Arab sources, 152 rioters were “injured”, 2 seriously. Apparently, the “injuries” were caused by rubber bullets and tear gas inhalation.
Many of those detained were put on buses and transported to the Ma’ale Adumim area where they were immediately released. They will be back at the Temple Mount by tomorrow.
Another part of the struggle for primacy on the Mount is who can deliver the most inciteful fake propaganda. This photo was just put up on Palestinian social media:
What this is actually a photo of is a chametz burning ceremony before Passover in the anti-Zionist Toldot Aharon community in Mea Shearim–which is several miles from the Old City and the Al-Aksa Mosque.
But never mind the truth. Already there are apparently tens of thousands of more Palestinians rushing to the Old City to “defend” Al-Aksa and “redeem it with their blood.”
Amidst all of this, Israel has already been condemned for what is happening on the Mount by the usual cast of motley characters: Jordan, the European Union, the PLO, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Ra’am Party which is threatening to leave the Coalition if the violence does not subside.
This ridiculous condemnation is the same that we go through every Ramadan no matter how many concessions we give to the Palestinians. When Ramadan and Passover coincide, it only makes things worse.
