The Quote of the Day
“Netanyahu, I am the one who built a conservative camp in the Supreme Court, established 14 settlements in the Negev, saved the settlement of Mitzpe Kerami, denied citizenship to terrorists and for the first time acted to deport their families, removed a record number of voluntary infiltrators, significantly increased the budgets in Judea and Samaria. . . and the list goes on. I’m more right than right. Netanyahu, your personal hatred endangers the right-wing bloc. Are 5 election cycles not enough for you to understand? The Jewish Home is the only chance for a right-wing government.”
Ayelet Shaked, head of the Jewish Home Party in a post yesterday
By now, anyone who has been around Israeli politics for any time knows Benjamin Netanyahu’s modus operandi. In every election campaign, he focuses his attention on attacking the right and trying to cannibalize voters from the right-wing parties–instead of attacking the left.
It is a strategy that worked several times in the past, but not in the last two years. All that Netanyahu has done is undermine the right and make it impossible for it to garner 61 seats.
At the moment, Netanyahu’s entire focus seems to be on forcing Ayelet Shaked to stop running in the election. It is a recipe for “right-wing” disaster. As we have previously written, unless Shaked passes the threshold and gets 4 seats in the Knesset, there is no hope of Netanyahu forming a government after the coming election.
We have been highly critical of Shaked in recent months, but now she is exactly correct.
The Photo of the Day
As we have written many times, hardly a day goes by that “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz and “Justice” Minister Gideon Saar do not order another fledgling community in Judea and Samaria to be razed.
The demonstrators last night were in front of Sa’ar’s home protesting the unprecedented campaign of destruction and arrests being carried out by this government.
The News on the Israeli Street
The war in Judea and Samaria: Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
As the protesters’s signage above demands, why aren’t Lapid, Gantz, and Sa’ar focusing on attacks like these yesterday:
Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli buses between Beit Furik and Elon Moreh.
Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli motorists with IEDs, Molotovs, and “rocks” near Hatam (Israeli wounded), on Road 55 on the Nabi Elias Bypass, at Azzun, on Road 90 at the northern entrance to Jericho, and at a dozen other locations.
Palestinian terrorists threw Molotovs into Beit Horon starting fires in buildings there. Other fires were started near Kochav Yaakov, and between Beit Furik and Beit Dejan.
Palestinian terrorists started a major fire between Dolev and Talmon.
Palestinian terrorists attacked IDF forces as well as community security forces at New Gibeon, in Al-Azaria (one terrorist was killed), and in Shechem.
Palestinian terrorists opened fire at Beit El beside the Ohad Gate.
3 Palestinian terrorists tried to break into an IDF base on the Golan:
If you can believe this . . .
In the midst of all the terror, Benny Gantz sent police to throw Jewish families out of Chomesh at 30 minutes before Shabbat on Friday.
Terror alerts . . .
The Israeli police announced this morning that there are now 80 alerts for terror attacks on Yom Kippur and during the remaining high holy days.
Some good news . . .
Booking.com has reversed its position on labeling Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria as “violators of human rights.”
As a result, visitors to the Booking website will be able to book rooms in Area C.
This is a welcome change–much in the spirit of the change that took place with Ben and Jerry’s reversal of selling ice cream in Judea and Samaria.
Some bad news . . .
It is looking ever more as if Israel has signed away its territorial rights to Lebanon in the upcoming maritime agreement.
Specifically, it appears that Israel is completely conceding that all proceeds from the Qana gas field will go to Lebanon—even though half of the field is in Israeli maritime territory.
In short, Lebanon has gotten everything that it wanted, and Israel none of what it wanted.
TODAY’S BLOG:
“Words Can Kill”
The last few days have seen an unprecedented campaign of attacks against Itamar Ben Gvir, the chairman of the Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) party.
The attacks have come primarily from the Israeli and American “left.”
Just yesterday we had Yair Golan of the Meretz Party making the extraordinarily inflammatory declaration that Ben Gvir should be put in prison because of this nationalistic beliefs. This statement came in the wake of similar statements by PM Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz.
Moreover, the chairman of the U.S. Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Democrat Senator Robert Menendez, warned opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu in a face to face meeting that Ben Gvir should not be given a place in a Netanyahu government because it would undermine relations between the U.S. and Israel.
Following these statements and more over the weekend, a Molotov was thrown at Ben Gvir’s office in the Shimon HaTzadik neighborhood in eastern Jerusalem last night whereupon Ben Gvir issued this statement:
“The wild incitement of Gantz and Lapid calls for my blood. The left does not stop attacking me, cursing me, and conducting a campaign of delegitimization against me.
Time after time they defame me and delegitimize me – and the results are not long in coming. This wild incitement caused a fire tonight and is a red sign for what might happen next. Today they threw a Molotov cocktail at my offices, and tomorrow it could happen directly against me.
The attempt to burn my office is a direct result of the incitement against me by Lapid, Gantz and their other partners on the left. I say clearly: if a hair on my head falls out, it is their responsibility. Words can kill.”
