The Quote of the Day
“We refused Israel’s request to deport senior Hamas officials from our territory. We do not consider Hamas a terror organization.”
The Turkish Foreign Minister speaking yesterday.
And your humble servant thought that Turkey was supposed to be our new friend–especially after “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz was all lovey-dovey with PM Erdogan in Ankara last week–followed by President Herzog.
With friends like the Turks, who needs enemies?
The News on the Israeli Street
The ongoing war in Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem:
Attacks with IEDs, Molotovs, and “rocks”.
Palestinian terrorists threw an IED at IDF troops stationed at the Nabi Salah pillbox that overlooks Road 465.
A Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed when he tried to infiltrate Israel near Jenin.
Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis on Road 446 near Shukba, at Kever HaSheikh on the Jerusalem-Gush Etzion Road, on the Hosan Bypass between Beitar and Al-Khader, between Jinspot and Emmanuel, at Bruchin, on Road 55 near Al-Funduq, Al-Aruv, on Road 465 beside Deir Abu Meshal, at Zubidat, Hawara, Beit Omer, and at a host of other places.
Thank you to Rescue without Borders SSF for elements of the above reportage..
Tamar Aharon released from the hospital! . . .
Tamar Aharon, the young teenager who was shot in the head by a Palestinian terrorist several weeks ago in Kiryat Arba, has remarkably recovered and went home yesterday.
Your prayers paid off!
Once a leftist always a leftist . . .
The high hopes that we had for President Herzog to turn away from the “left” and be a neutral President are quickly vanishing.
Yesterday, as Herzog was meeting with a representative from Shas during the required consultations following an election, he let this slip when he thought his microphone was off: “You have a partner that the whole world is worried about . . . This is just between you and me; I don’t want to cause trouble.”
That partner is Itamar Ben Gvir, and Herzog caused considerable trouble by egregiously overstepping presidential norms with his hot microphone comment.
A great idea . . .
Speaking of Ben Gvir, it was revealed yesterday that he wants to get rid of the loathsome 443 police investigative unit and transfer the money to crime-fighting personnel in the Negev.
TODAY’S BLOG
Why Should This Judge Be Ashamed And Shamed?
Here are the simple facts.
Two years ago, a group of Bedouin thieves broke into a Jewish community home in the Negev.
One of the thieves, a 15-year-old teenager, found a 10-year-old girl asleep in her bed and raped her.
He was later captured and tried and convicted of rape.
The victim has been under the care of psychologists and social workers ever since.
This week, it was time for the rapist (now 17-years-old) to be sentenced. The prosecution asked for a 10 year sentence (six years less than the maximum allowed under Israeli law).
At the sentencing, the judge, Yael Raz-Loy, berated the prosecution for asking for a 10 year sentence saying that the prosecution had failed to take into account the “young man’s age.”
Instead she sentenced him to 5 years in prison. In all likelihood, he will be out in a year having shown (by the judge’s account) “good behavior” during his past two years in prison.
Needless to say, the case has shocked Israel calling into question yet again the egregious leniency that the judicial system shows to Arab criminals and terrorists.
The girl’s father had this to say: “I did not expect anything from the court. They seek to make things easier for members of minorities and do not consider deterrence and victims. The state has abandoned its children. We do not live in security at all, but in constant vigilance. With such punishments as we saw today, it will soon happen again.”
Judge Yael Raz-Loy should be ashamed and shamed. Her ruling is indicative of an Israeli judicial system that has lost its moral values.
