The Photo and Video of the Day
As you know, the World Cup Soccer championship begins today with an opening ceremony in Qatar followed by a game between Qatar and Ecuador. Here is what was happening on the streets of the capital, Doha, last night.
Click here to see the video of the massive pro-Palestinian demonstration with dozens of PLO flags.
The chants were “I swear by Allah to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque” and “With spirit and blood we will redeem Al-Aqsa.”
Very sporting.
By the way, at tonight’s opening ceremony, verses from the Koran will be read.

TODAY’S BLOG
The Disturbance in Hevron Yesterday
As you may not know, this weekend was the joyous annual celebration of the life of Sarah (Parshat Chayei Sarah) in Hevron. Some 30,000 Israelis from all over the country flocked to the city on Friday to join the festivities.
In the course of the events yesterday, a major brawl broke out between Jews and Muslims with rocks being thrown at both sides.
As the IDF tried to separate the two groups, one IDF soldier was targeted by a drunken elderly Jew who is not a resident of Hevron. He punched her and hit her with a stick slightly injuring her. She was treated on the spot and resumed her duty. The elderly Jew subsequently tried to attack other Jews in the crowd.
This morning the news media is awash with false stories of how “settlers went on a violent rampage in Hevron wounding an IDF soldier.” Everyone on the “left” has piled on, condemning the residents of Hevron for what happened to the soldier.
Also this morning, the entire Jewish community in Hevron has condemned the incident with the note that the soldier herself grew up in Hevron and is resident of the Tel Rumeida neighborhood of Hevron.
As for the perpetrator, he has subsequently been arrested. We hope that he is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
At the same time, we hope that those on the “left” will remain angry each time our soldiers are attacked by Palestinians–-which is every hour of every day. They never say anything about those attacks.
