Photo of the Day
The Sgid holiday which has been celebrated since the first Jews arrived in Ethiopia centuries ago is thought to be the date on which God first revealed himself to Moses. The community renews its covenant with God through prayer and community introspection. The height of the celebrations take place on the 29th day of the month of Cheshvan–50 days after Yom Kippur.
The News on the Israeli Street
The war in Judea and Samaria.
IDF soldiers and policeman captured two gun smugglers near the Palestinian settlement of Ojah. They seized 21 pistols, 2 M16s, and 50 other weapon assemblies:
IED, Molotov, and “rock” attacks:
Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis on Road 60 at the northern entrance to Efrat, on the Gush Etzion-Hevron road near the archaeological area, between Tapuach and Ariel near Jama’in, on Road 446 at the Neelin Junction (woman wounded with shrapnel in her face), at Halhol, on Road 465 at the Ravavi Junction, and at other locations too numerous to mention.
Palestinian terrorists opened fire on IDF soldiers operating in Shechem. In the ensuing firefight no soldiers were wounded.
Palestinian terrorists opened fire on IDF soldiers in Jenin.
Palestinian terrorists opened fire on IDF solders in Balata.
Palestinian terrorists attacked IDF soldiers at Al-Arov (soldier wounded).
Palestinian terrorists exploded a car bomb near the IDF pillbox at Dotan.
The health of Israelis . . .
Israelis are smoking and eating more.
Unfortunately, statistics from the Ministry of Health reveal:
–20.1% of Israelis now smoke cigarettes (1 in every 3 Israeli men smoke)–this is an increase over last year
–59% of Israelis between 20-64 are obese, 40% of men older than 65 are obese
–10% of Israelis now have diabetes
–the use of antibiotic drugs also increased with 660 prescriptions being written for every 1000 citizens
TODAY’S BLOG:
The New Government Takes Shape!
Please note that all of the below is subject to change as cantankerous Likud members begin to battle for the remaining Ministerships.
Likud:
Yoav Gallant: Minister of Defense
Miri Regev: (Minister of Education–still uncertain but probable)
Shas:
Aryeh Deri: Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister, (Minister of Transportation–still uncertain but probable)
Shas will also have the Ministry of Health, Ministry of the Negev and Galilee, the Religious Affairs Ministry
Otzma Yehudit:
Itamar Ben Gvir: Minister of Internal Security
Otzma Yehudit will also receive the Agriculture Ministry, and the Ministry of Social Affairs
National Zionism:
Bezalel Smotrich: Minister of Finance
National Zionism will also receive a deputy minister in the Defense Ministry that deals with power over “settlements” in Judea and Samaria, and the Ministry of Immigration and Absorption
United Torah Judasim:
Yitzhak Goldknopf: Minister of Housing
UTJ will also have Moshe Gafni as the Head of the Knesset Finance Committee, the Ministry of Social Equality, and the Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs
What is there to say about this lineup?
If Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich are handed the positions above, a dramatic change will be on the way in Israel–especially in Judea and Samaria. Smotrich’s deputy ministership in the Defense Ministry means that he will control the infamous Civil Administration.
It was the Civil Administration that former Defense Minister Benny Gantz used to wage war on Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. If Smotrich can reverse this, we might begin to see a change on the ground in Area C. “If” and “might” because we all know that the ultimate authority on what happens in Judea and Samaria rests in the hands of PM-to-be Netanyahu who is always wedded to the status quo.
Let’s hope that we are now beginning down a long road to return to an Israel that we once knew.
