The News on the Israeli Street
Terror in Israel overnight . . .
On the Gaza border:
The missiles struck at 3:10 am, 3:32 am, 6:53 am, and 6:58 am.
We could hear the explosions here in Ashdod.
The IDF spokesman, wh0 always grossly underestimates the number of missiles fired at southern Israel, announced this morning that 16 missiles were launched by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza targeting Sderot, Yad Mordechai and surrounding communities. According to reports on the ground, more than 22 missiles were actually fired.
No Israelis were hit by missiles or falling shrapnel, but one man in Sderot was injured while running to his bomb shelter at a few hours ago. Numerous others have had to be treated for trauma.
At first, Hamas and Islamic Jihad announced that the missiles were in response to the possibility that a goat might be sacrificed on the Temple Mount during Passover; then they posted that the missiles were in response to clashes on the Temple Mount; then they announced that ____ (you fill in the blank). The bottom line is simply that they launch missiles because they want to kill us.
By the way, the IDF once again responded by bombing sand dunes and empty buildings.
In Judea and Samaria:
Palestinian terrorists opened fire on IDF soldiers at Beit Omer near Hevron at 3:40 am this morning. One soldier was seriously wounded. The terrorists escaped.
Numerous Molotov, IED, and “rock attacks have occurred in the last 12 hours. The worst attack was north of Hevron near Beit Ummar where an Israeli motorist’s car was hit by Molotovs and burned. Fortunately, he was able to escape:
Severe disturbances on the Temple Mount . . .
In what can only be described as “totally predictable”, Palestinians have taken advantage of the egregiously ridiculous effort by the government to flood the Mount with Muslims to try to completely take it over.
As we have previously reported this week, a large group of masked Muslim men continues to try to barricade themselves in the Al-Aqsa Mosque overnight in violation of every agreement that the Islamic Wakf has with Israel.
Last night, police entered the Mosque to kick them out. Using stun and smoke grenades, they succeeded and in the process arrested some 350.
As you can imagine, the Arab world (and liberal idiots in such places as the U.S. State Department) are all “horrified” and are calling on Israel to end its “aggression.”
A flood of terror . . .
In making a pre-Passover toast yesterday, Ronan Bar–the head of Shin Bet–said that in the last three months, Shin Bet has thwarted more than 200 major Palestinian terror attacks including 150 shooting attacks, 20 attempted IED bombings, suicide attacks, and car rammings. Unfortunately, as he pointed out, 15 Israelis have been murdered.
A special Passover for Amiram Ben Oliel . . .
Amiram, who was falsely convicted of three murders in Duma back in 2015 after being tortured for 30 days (admitted by the prosecution) into a confession, has now been in prison for nearly 7 1/2 years.
In total isolation.
He has had no contact with family (wife and daughter), friends, lawyers, or even other prisoners.
Last month, he was allowed to make a phone call to his family and speak to his daughter for the first time.
His conditions are far worse than those for the worst Palestinian security prisoner.
Why he is kept in such cruel isolation is incomprehensible.
Yesterday, following an initiative by Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, it was announced that tonight, Amiram will be allowed to go to the wing of the prison that houses religious prisoners and celebrate the Passover seder.
And then, sadly, he will be returned to isolation.
TODAY’S BLOG
Let’s Celebrate Passover At Shiloh!
Let’s turn away from the events of the day and hearken back to the original Passover:
What you are looking at is an amazing new interactive display at ancient Shiloh. It is a 2000 meter maze that allows you to walk through the Red Sea with the Israelites while creating a sense of urgency that you must get out before the sea closes in on you.
During Passover, tens of thousands of Israelis go to Shiloh which as you know was the first place where the Ark of the Covenant rested (for 369 years).
If you go to ancient Shiloh as your humble servant has done many times, you will find “exhibitions of artisans and musicians, ancient craft workshops, craft stations, street musicians and more”:
Also according to the information on the Shiloh website you will be able to immerse yourself in a hologram that brings “that brings the ancient city to life.”
It is a trip well worth taking.
