Another missile attack at 6:33 pm today targeting the area between the Gaza border and Ashkelon.
When is a ceasefire not a ceasefire? When Palestinian terrorists are involved.
Late this afternoon, following a speech in Gaza in which the Islamic Jihad spokesman praised those shooting the missiles at Israel, more missiles were shot at southern Israel.
It appears that we are back to IDF disinformation as the IDF spokesman absurdly declared that the missiles were fired “by accident.”
It also appears that we are once again involved in a drizzling war of missile launches targeting southern Israel.

A Recap Of This Week’s War With Palestinian Gaza
According to the IDF:
*1469 missiles were launched into Israeli territory. 35 more missiles were fired after the “ceasefire” last night.
[It should be added that more than 200 mortars were also fired at southern Israel (soldiers and civilians). The precise number may not be known for weeks. All told, at least 1704 missiles and mortars were fired by the terrorists.]
*1 Israeli was tragically killed. 19 others suffered minor wounds.
*The Iron Dome intercepted 473 missiles (an interception rate of 95.6%.
*The David’s Sling intercepted 2 missiles.
Insofar as Islamic Jihad is concerned:
*Islamic Jihad’s command and control capabilities were severely damaged.
*More than 100 missile “launch pits” were destroyed.
*17 missile production sites were destroyed.
*1 “sensitive site” in a tunnel was destroyed.
*20 homes of Islamic Jihad senior leaders were destroyed.
* In total, 389 bombs were dropped on 289 targets.
*33 people died in Gaza: 3 women and 6 children (families of senior Islamic Jihad leaders who were killed when apartments were hit with missiles), 24 Islamic Jihad leaders and missile launching teams.

As these “mini-wars” go (and there is another one every six months or so), Israel seems to have degraded Islamic Jihad to a significant degree.
More importantly, the war has perhaps delivered a message to Hamas and Hezbollah about what their leaders can expect if they go to war with Israel.
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
