The Photo of the Day
Painted by a consortium of international artists, the magnificent mural tells the story of the Jewish people. The mural is the product of the ILAN organization.
ILAN is a pro-Israel lobby for Israel and Latin America founded by Isaac Asa, a Mexican-Syrian businessman.
The News on the Israeli Street
The war in Judea and Samaria.
A major battle is currently (at 10 am Israel time) taking place in Jenin. IDF armored vehicles sent in to rescue undercover fighters who had carried out an arrest operation were struck by IEDs on their way out; 6 soldiers were wounded–all were rescued and are conscious-but several are in “serious” condition.
As of this moment, 3 terrorists have been killed and 28 more wounded.
IED, “rock”, Molotov attacks:
Palestinian terrorists attacked at the Burka Junction between Homesh and Shevi Shomron, on Road 55 at the Nabi Elias Bypass, on Road 60 near Luban al-Sharqiya, on the Gush Etzion-Hevron Road near Al Aruv and at a myriad of other locations.
In the absence of governmental action . . .
. . . and in the presence of active Palestinian terror, Jewish community protesters turned out in force and manned the abandoned Harmash checkpoint blocking Palestinian cars.
When police attempted to clear the checkpoint, clashes ensued with police videotaped while beating up community members. Those police have already been suspended from duty.
A follow-up to yesterday’s blog . . .
We reported yesterday that just over 4,500 new apartments have been approved for communities in Judea and Samaria.
The equally fantastic news is that the government also drastically shortened the time between approval and construction shortly thereafter.
Previously, each apartment project had to go through 6 separate sets of approval from the Defense Minister and the Prime Minister. This process was created as a sop to so-called international “humanitarian” organizations so that they could appeal the process endlessly.
Yesterday, the approval process was reduced to 2 steps–meaning that construction will now take place much more quickly.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Judicial Reform: Back On Again
Three days ago, it seemed that the reform was dead.
Two days ago, it seemed that it was on life support.
This morning, we have PM Netanyahu’s announcement that it is on again.
You may recall that it was a scant 2 weeks ago that the news from the President’s House concerning judicial reform negotiations was somewhat promising.
Apparently, the Opposition had agreed to somewhat curb the power of the “legal advisor” (aka Attorney General), and to reduce the use of the “reasonableness” clause in the evaluation of prospective new ministers to the government.
In return, the government agreed to not change the composition of the Judicial Selection Committee and to seat an Opposition member on that committee.
And so the government followed through.
Only to have the Opposition immediately withdraw from negotiations the instant that its member was chosen for the Committee.
It turns out that the Opposition’s agreement about the Attorney General and “reasonableness” was just a fraud. Yesterday afternoon, both Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz issued a statement that no agreement whatsoever has been made with the Coalition government.
In response, PM Netanyahu declared late yesterday that practical steps would immediately be taken to continue to implement the judicial reforms.
