The Totally Absurd News of the Day
THANK G-d! Glory Halleluyah! The heavens be praised!
President Joe Biden called PM Netanyahu on the phone yesterday!!!!
THANK G-d! Glory Halleluyah! The heavens be praised!
And there is even talk that Netanyahu may be invited to the White House!!!!
THANK G-d! Glory Halleluyah! The heavens be praised!
In what can only be described as a totally degrading moment after six months of virtually no contact, Biden called to give Bibi a lecture on stopping construction in Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and the need for a broad consensus on judicial reform.
Of course what was even more degrading was the timing of the call–coming as it did as leftist Israeli President Bougie Herzog landed in Washington into the warm embrace of the Biden Administration.
Nevermind that the unelected and failed political leader Herzog has no mandate to speak on any subject regarding Israel, he will nonetheless be the face of Israel in Washington for the next few days.
In any case, we can all rest easy.
The great man Biden has deigned to give our lowly Prime Minister a telephone call.
The Nauseating Photo of the Day
As you can read, it is a Muslim holiday.
What holiday? The first day of Muharram–the first month on the Islamic calendar.
One wonders why the Mount is not closed to Muslims on Jewish holidays?
Let’s see what happens next week with the arrival of the 9th of Av.
The News on the Israeli Street
Another “snow day” . . .
Many moons ago, when your humble servant was growing up in Georgia (U.S.), it used to snow or sleet once or twice every winter. On those wonderful days, school was called off even if there was barely an inch of snow on the ground (those of you who grew up in more northern climes must be laughing at this moment).
Here in Israel, we now have a snow day every Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and sometimes on days in between. Most Israelis who have a job are excused for the day and take to the streets to celebrate–along with all those who are retired and all of those who are paid anarchists. University students who ditch their classes often lead the way:
As we have written previously, the new strategy of the anarchists is to stage “National Days of Disruption” on which they break up into smaller groups and wreak havoc on streets and roads throughout the country. This morning, small bands have blocked the Yanai interchange, Highway 4, the Nahalel intersection on road 75, Road 5, the Ayalon Freeway and other locations. They have also blocked the entrance to the Defense Ministry Kirya in Tel Aviv (the photo above), and will try to clog train stations in the afternoon.
In a new twist, high-tech hackers will take down websites and applications.
In short, the anarchists are trying to spread anarchy everywhere.
Netanyahu’s Cabinet comments yesterday . . .
The prime minister focused on the refusal to serve by those in the military and in the reserves:
“To all of those who wave the flag of democracy: in a democracy, the military is subject to the government, and not the other way around . . . Refusal to serve is in opposition to democracy and in violation of the law. In our democracy, refusal directly endangers the security of all of Israel’s citizens. It eats away at the deterrence of our enemies and it endangers discipline in the military.
It is unthinkable that a group in the military should threaten the elected government by saying ‘if you do not do as we wish we will stop providing security.’ No democratic country can accept such a dictate. Such a dictate is a destruction of the democracy.
I will repeat. Refusal to serve endangers the security of all citizens of Israel. The government will act against it and will take all the necessary steps to ensure our security and our future.”
TODAY’S BLOG
“These Are Our Roots, And This Is Our Land.”
In the midst of all the bad news around us, there was some very good news yesterday.
The Cabinet approved an initial 120 million shekel campaign to preserve Jewish archaeological sites in Area C of Judea and Samaria.
As regular readers of OneIsrael know, the past few years have seen a concerted effort by the Palestinians (largely funded by the European Union) to destroy Jewish heritage sites in Area C–an area supposedly under complete Israeli control. Too often, the government has turned a blind eye to the destruction–or in the case of the previous government even encouraged it.
In the meeting yesterday, it was revealed that there are approximately 2400 sites in Area C.
As PM Netanyahu said: “In every corner of Judea and Samaria, one need only put a spade in the ground in order to uncover archaeological finds that attest to our deep roots in the Land of Israel. These are our roots, and this is our land.”
Amen to that!
