The Quote of the Day
There was something Arafat-esque and Abbas-esque about the events of last night.
First, we had PM Netanyahu basically caving into the Opposition by giving them everything they asked for including: freezing the judicial reform for 18 months, further weakening the “Reasonableness Law”, and making no changes to the Judicial Selection Committee. To this, Netanyahu urged Opposition leaders, particularly Benny Gantz to come to the table to negotiate.
Only to be met by this outrageous rejection from Gantz: “Netanyahu is being held hostage by extremist elements in his government.”
Say what? Being held hostage? Netanyahu’s caving in came at the expense of his being harshly (and correctly) criticized by the more conservative members of his Coalition.
Do you remember when Ehud Barak offered Yasser Arafat the keys to Israel back in 2000–even offering to build him a private road to the Temple Mount where Arafat could have his own office? Or Ehud Olmert offering Mahmoud Abbas 96% of Judea and Samara and 4% of Israel–and proposing to internationalize Jerusalem?
Just like Gantz, Arafat and Abbas flatly rejected the offers.
Gantz, Lapid, and the rest of the Opposition will accept nothing less than the overthrow of the Netanyahu government.

Israelis sink deeper into debt . . .
Despite the fact that average salaries in Israel rose by 6% last month, Israelis spent all of that and more on credit card purchases.
In fact, August broke all records of credit card spending. Israelis ran up 42.266 billion shekels in purchases.
In the September lead up to the high holy days, you can expect that the August numbers will be quickly eclipsed.
