UPDATE 5:00 PM ISRAEL TIME
May Their Memories Be For A Blessing
Capt. Yordan Zakai, 21 of Hadera, a platoon commander in the Shaked Battalion of the Givati Brigade, who was seriously wounded in Rafah by an IED explosion on September 17, died of his wounds today after a valiant six week fight for life.
Four other members of the platoon were killed in the same booby trapped house that blew up wounding Capt. Zakai.
The names of the four Thai workers who were killed in the missile strike on Metulla were released today: Kawisak Papanang, Akapon Wanasai, Thana Tijantak and Prayat Pilatram.
Again, may the memories of all of the above be for a blessing.
On the Ground in Gaza
The IDF Spokesman:
“In the Jabaliya area, the troops eliminated dozens of terrorists from the air and ground and conducted targeted raids on military structures.
In central Gaza, the troops identified and eliminated several armed terrorists who were operating in the area. In the Rafah area, the troops identified terrorists operating within a military structure that had an underground tunnel shaft. The IAF then struck and eliminated the terrorists.”
On the Ground in the North
Numerous Israelis have been wounded by Hezbollah missile fire today. 11 were wounded in a recent barrage on the northern Israeli-Arab town of Sha’ab, including 5 children and a pregnant woman. Most seriously wounded is a 37-year-old man who has shrapnel wounds all over his body. The wounded were all picking olives in an olive grove near the town.
Some of the places which have been targeted by Hezbollah missiles and drones today:
13:35 Sakhnin, Deir al-Assad, Karmiel, Ma’alot Tarshiha, Karmiel; 10:43 Dovev; 08:35 Even Menachem; 08:16 Ajjar; 07:04 Pek’in, Beit Jann; 06:39 Kiryat Shmona; 06:33 Manara, Kiryat Shmona; 02:08 Neot Mordechai, Kfar Blum.
In the 13:35 barrage, Hezbollah launched more than 30 missiles.
As of one hour ago, Hezbollah had fired 55 missiles into northern Israel today.
*The last remaining member of the Hezbollah military hierarchy, Abu Ali Rida, commander of the Bader Unit, was eliminated in an IAF attack overnight.
On the Ground in Judea and Samaria
Soldiers in the Menashe Brigade eliminated a 3-man terror cell in Nur a-Shams beside Tulkarm yesterday.
The IDF Spokesman commenting on the encounter:
“In a unit operation of the Harob Patrol, in cooperation with the Mageb and Shin Bet forces, in Nur a-Shams in the Menashe Brigade, an Air Force aircraft attacked and killed two terrorists who shot at the forces.
The terrorists, Abd Elaziz Abu Samman and Ahmed Atsam Fahmawi, are terrorist operatives from the Nur a-Shams area who were involved in shooting and in the field of explosives.
MGB fighters, forces and IDF engineering tools destroyed a number of IED charges that were planted underground in order to harm the forces.
During the operation, an aircraft detected terrorists using the hospital complex in Tulkarm to transfer weapons.”
What Is New With Ceasefire/Hostage Negotiations
Nothing.
The Lebanese declared today that PM Netanyahu is not interested in a ceasefire and that Biden envoy Amos Hochstein has failed in his efforts to bring one about.
In Gaza, Hamas says that it will not discuss any proposals until after the American elections next week, and that in any case, there will be no ceasefire/hostage agreement until the IDF completely withdraws from Gaza.
And so it goes today in Israel . . .
but as we know, the day isn’t over yet . . .
