“Operation Jewish Presence” Goes Into Action

UPDATES 7 pm Israel time Wednesday:

It has been a horrific day on the roads of Israel. 

*On the Hawara road in Samaria, a traffic accident claimed the life of Nissan Shalom of Elon Moreh, a 60 year old former elementary school principal in my home city of Ashdod.

Police report that Shalom’s car hit the back of a Palestinian truck–in circumstances that remain unclear. 

According to Shomron Council Head Gershon Mesika, the accident was the direct result of the opening of the Hawara checkpoint to Palestinians–an opening that has exponentially increased the number of heavy trucks on the road: “For more than two years, we have been begging for a bypass road for Jews and Arabs alike, but for political reasons our requests have fallen on deaf ears.”

Shalom, the father of seven, was buried this afternoon.

*A truck traveling down Bar Yehuda Way on Mt. Carmel lost its brakes in mid-afternoon and plowed into at least nine cars and a number of pedestrians before coming to a stop. Casualties reported thus far include 6 people killed, 3 more critically injured, another 6 in fair condition.

The driver, a 30 year old man from Rahat, was seen by witnesses screaming to all to get out of his way because he couldn’t brake the truck.

Some of the Women in Green; hard at work in Judea and Samaria to secure the nation of Israel.

The Women in Green, in conjunction with residents of Efrat, are taking “road matters” into their own hands this evening.

Tired of being assaulted everyday by Palestinian terrorist “rock throwers”, the Women in Green are setting up “Operation Jewish Presence” at the northern exit of Efrat.

Nadia Matar, one of the  organizers of this action told the Israeli media today: “We have a clear message. This is our home, and this is our country. We will walk and drive everywhere in our free and sovereign country.”

Matar continued: “Palestinian rock throwing not only presents a physical danger of injury but also damages our national Jewish dignity. The goal of the Arabs is not only to kill specific drivers but also to sow fear among Jews. That scheme cannot succeed. Operation Jewish Presence will occur wherever the IDF does not find it necessary to place a military presence to protect us.

As regular readers of this blog know, your humble servant often participates in Women in Green events such as the march around the old city of Jerusalem. They are force to be reckoned with and their passion for Israel is unmatched. 

Recently, a PLO official said this: “I hate the Women in Green, but I love the way that they work.”  

Could the Women in Green have a better recommendation?
