Iranian Hypocrisy 101: A Basic Primer Of How To Deal With Dissent

Two days ago, I wrote that among lessons learned from the Egyptian events was that Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia would likely follow the Iranian model of dealing with protests rather than the Egyptian model. This morning that Iranian model of quashing dissent is on full display. After three weeks of daily pronouncements praising the protestors in Egypt, the Iranian government is brutally suppressing similar protestors on the streets of Tehran. Tear gas lobbed into crowds, thugs riding in motorcycle pairs around the city bludgeoning demonstrators, putting opposition leaders such as Moussavi under arrest–these are just a few of actions the Iranians are enacting to foster Iranian democracy.
