The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 . . .
Along the Gaza border:
The fire terrorism never stops. With Palestinian terrorists launching dozens of incendiary balloons, kites, and other devices into southern Israel everyday, some of them inevitably start fires that scorch the landscape along the border.
Yesterday was no different: dozens launched, 7 large fires laying waste to fields and forests.
At the same time, the IDF spokesman noted around midnight: “Hundreds of rioters gathered at several locations in the Gaza Strip last night, as rioters hurled stones, bombs and grenades at the security fence.”
Rioters? Is that what they are?
Using the term “rioters” is just another way for the IDF to avoid taking action against “terrorists” and for the despicable IDF COGAT unit to keep trucking “humanitarian” supplies into Palestinian Hamas Gaza every day.
In Judea and Samaria:
—Molotov attacks on Jewish families on the Abud Bypass on Road 465, near Talmon, between Rehelim and the Tapuach Junction, and Beitin.
—“Rock” attacks on buses on the Gush Etzion Road south of Karmei Tzur, near Azzun, at El Aruv, Beit Ummar, and on the road to Hevron.
—A molotov and “rock” attack by dozens of terrorists against IDF soldiers guarding Jewish worshipers at Joseph’s Tomb in Shechem; other IDF soldiers attacked with IEDs at Jilazon; a police van targeted at Hizma.
—A molotov thrown at Psagot in an attempt to burn down the perimeter security fence.
All of the above were reported by citizens to Rescue Judea and Samaria, Rescue 443, hakolhayehudi, and rotter.
So how does the world respond to Palestinian terrorism? . . .
By giving them more money.
If you had a chance to watch or listen to PM Netanyahu’s powerful speech at the U.N. yesterday, dear reader, you know that one part of that speech was his castigation of European countries and leaders who are determined to supply Iran with money even as the Iranians are carrying out terrorism in Europe.
The same is happening in Palestinian Areas A and B in Judea and Samaria, and in Gaza.
Yesterday the Germans announced that they would increase their support to UNRWA by 100 million Euros this year.
Insofar as Gaza is concerned, a donor country conference held at UN headquarters in New York resulted in $50 million dollars being donated to ease the “humanitarian” situation in Gaza where the “poor Palestinians” are “suffering” from power and water shortages.
Led by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and . . . you guessed it . . . the European Union, this group promised to send $15 million dollars immediately.
Don’t think that Israel was not complicit in this decision. The Israeli delegation at the conference led by Netanyahu confidant Tzahi Hanegbi and our COGAT commander signed off on the actions of the group because it said that it feared that an economic collapse in Gaza would lead to “a new wave” of violence.
What unmitigated nonsense. As we noted above, violence from Gaza continues unabated, economic aid or not. And where do you think that the donated money is going? You can answer the question as well as your humble servant.
It’s the same old story we’ve heard from the Palestinians for decades: “If you don’t give us more money, there will be violence.”

Some observations on PM Netanyahu’s UN address . . .
*It was another eloquent tour-de-force to a largely empty room. Most of the delegates who were present were from African and European countries and they were impassive. All of the applause came from the Israeli guests in the gallery.
*It exposed yet again how disastrous the nuclear appeasement agreement with Iran was–and how Iran continues to work on its nuclear weapons program. In doing so, Netanyahu correctly called out the totally inept IAEA for doing nothing to check Iran’s nuclear program.
*It exposed Iran yet again for what it is–the world’s largest purveyor of terrorism. From Hezbollah in Lebanon to killing Sunnis in Syria, Iran’s terror activities have reached worldwide proportions.
*It especially called out the Europeans for their “appeasement”. One could not help but see the parallels between what the Europeans did in the 1930s with what they are doing now.
*Netanyahu was especially gracious in praising President Trump for his actions on the Iranian and Palestinian fronts.
All in all, your humble servant thought it was a terrific speech–though as you can imagine, the liberal media–especially in Israel-was quick to attack it.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Pictures Of Our Solidarity Trip To Sderot
As I noted in a blog several days ago, your humble servant decided to go to Sderot to show our respect for the amazingly resilient citizens who live in an area constantly rocked by missile and fires.
Today, I thought I would share some pictures that I took at a fair in Sderot on Wednesday:
The turnout for the fair was amazing with thousands of children and adults from all over southern Israel:
Strange creatures greeted all new arrivals:
Residents from many of the Gaza border kibbutzim and moshavs were there selling items in their booths:
If you guessed it was about the tsava adom (red incoming missile siren), you are correct. In fact, it is titled “Tsava Adom” authored by Esther Marcus. Beautifully illustrated, it is a children’s book that attempts to help children overcome the constant and unremitting trauma they face. If you are interested in buying the book, contact me through the israelstreet email address on this blog (israelstreet1948@gmail.com).
It was heartwarming to see how the folks on the border have not lost their smiles–despite the fact that the government has largely abandoned them:
Your humble servant with two ladies from the south:
Of course we took a walk around Sderot to visit some of our favorite places (we try to go there often)–and were struck as always by the colorful surroundings:
Finally we stopped at a coffee shop:
As we ordered our coffees, we asked the waitress where she runs in the event of a missile attack. Her answer was simply that she no longer runs because there is no time; she just drops to the floor. She went on to talk about how many children and adults in Sderot have PTSD.
One final picture to sum up our day in Sderot:
Dagan, the man in this picture who is holding the cheese, is from Kibbutz Be’eri. It turns out that Dagan is one of the main firefighters working in the area of Be’eri. He was very gracious to spend some time talking with me about his experiences–even showing me how he receives fire alerts on his cellphone.
What bothered him the most he said were two things: the destruction that the fires have wrought on all the plants and wildlife in and around the kibbutz, and the degree of annoyance that he has when he receives yet another “fire call” which takes him away from his job.
Yet in spite of this, as I finished talking with him, Dagan told me a little “joke”. He said that because of the fires, his friends were suggesting that he add a new line of smoked cheese to his cheese offerings.
I think that captures the resilience of the people on the Gaza border; in spite of everything, they have retained their smiles and sense of humor. These brave people deserve our thanks and support!
Addendum: Dagan’s cheese is excellent! Here is the website for the dairy in Be’eri:
