The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror does not stop for holidays or Shabbat. . .
In Judea and Samaria, terrorists carried out attacks in El Khader, various parts of Gush Etzion, Huwara, Hevron, El Aruv, Qaddum, Luban a-Sharqiya, Tekoa, Oranit, along Road 443, and near Yitzhar among some 25 locations.
Along the Gaza border, more than 12,000 Hamasniks assaulted the border fence in several locations–burning tires, planting bombs, throwing grenades, and launching incendiary devices.
There are no reports of IDF soldiers being wounded (though the IDF suppresses such news); numerous terrorists were wounded.
Didn’t we predict this would happen? . . .
You may remember that last year when the Israeli government in its infinite short-sightedness decided to bring thousands of Jordanian workers to work in Eilat at the hotels, restaurant, and port there, your humble servant predicted that it was only a matter of time until a terror attack would occur.
And so, unfortunately, it came to pass yesterday when a Jordanian port worker bludgeoned two Israelis with a hammer in what the police called “a nationalistic” (aka “terror”) attack.
A “Taliban” wedding thwarted in Jerusalem . . .
On Thursday night, Israeli police operating in the Mea Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem stopped a wedding that was about to take place between a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy. The secret wedding was to have taken place on the roof of an apartment building where one of the families lived.
Police took all of the participants into custody–all of whom are members of the so-called “Taliban sect” of ultra, ultra, orthodox Judaism. The women in this sect cover themselves from head to foot, refuse to talk with or in front of any men and only engage in conjugal relations with their husbands once a month.
The “Taliban” group is tiny–numbering approximately 150 adherents.
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem should change its name? . . .
Not yet, however a proposal to teach all graduate courses in the sciences in English passed its first hurdle two days ago. The proposal still must be approved by the Academic Senate, but that is considered a mere formality.
In your humble servant’s not so humble opinion, this move to English is not welcome. In the first place, it reflects the fact that a very large number of students in the graduate courses at Hebrew University are Hebrew non-speaking/writing Arab students, and in the second place it is an obvious ploy to attract more higher-paying students from abroad.
This is Israel, and the courses should be in Hebrew.

Today’s Blog
The Total Irrelevance of the United Nations
Your humble servant hesitates to write this blog today because to do so gives attention to what has arguably become the world’s most biased and irrelevant entity.
Two days ago, timed to coincide with the November 29, 1947 U.N. resolution that set into motion the birth of modern Israel, the drafts of six more anti-Israel resolutions were introduced by the laughingly, so-called “diplomats” of the General Assembly:
“The Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People”
“Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine”
“Special information programme on the Question of Palestine”
“Division for Palestinian Rights”
“Jerusalem”
“The Syrian Golan”
If you noticed anything missing from the titles of the above resolutions, you were correct. There is no mention of Jews, Israelis, or Israel.
Yesterday, all six resolutions passed overwhelmingly.
As an example, the “Jerusalem” resolution passed in 148 in favor, 11 against, and 14 abstentions. In the words of a UN press release: “. . . the Assembly reiterates that any actions by Israel to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the Holy City of Jerusalem are illegal and therefore null and void.”
Note that this is not just about eastern Jerusalem; this is about all of Jerusalem, and by the way, the actual text of the resolution reads “any actions by Israel as an occupying power to impose . . .”
The press release continues: “It also stresses the need for the parties to observe calm and restraint and to refrain from provocative actions and calls for respect for the historic status quo at Jerusalem’s holy places.”
What the press release does not say is that the Jerusalem resolution only makes reference to Jerusalem’s holy places as Muslim. There is no mention of the Temple Mount in Hebrew–it is only referred to as the Haram Al-Sharif–the Kotel, or any other Jewish site.
We could go on and on, but we don’t want to beat a dead horse–and the United Nations as meaningful organization is dead.
Everyone, especially you dear readers, know what a farce the United Nations became long ago. No one here in Israel gives one whit about any of its anti-Israel resolutions anymore.
It has completely “biased” itself out of any relevancy.
